Description
ARICA : Audition Double LP (Arica Institute [USA] AI-1001) 1972.
Records are excellent with minimal light sleeve scuffs only. Gatefold cover is VG+ with moderate edge wear, including some small tears, but no splits.
Original copy of one of the two confusing versions of the self-released debut double LP by the Arica Institute school/commune/tribe, perhaps best known as the main inspiration for Alejandro Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain. One version of the double LP is just called Arica, with a brown cover; this version is called Audition and has a magenta cover. The contents of sides 1-3 are the same, but the brown version has one side-long track ("Water Music") on side 4, while this version has the six-part "Mantram" instead. Sides 1-3 of both versions are intended to accompany "one of the basic exercises of the Arica Training, The Audicion Plantar -- listening with the soles of the feet." The listener is directed to lie on his/her back on the floor with feet poining to the sound source, with additional specific instructions for bodily movements included track by track. Track four on this version is the superb 6-part psychedelic drone-chant epic "Mantram". We're not sure which version came first, but who cares? True Arica heads need both!
