ART BLAKEY

"ORGY IN RHYTHM, Volume One"  ORIGINAL MONO BLUE NOTE 1554, West 63rd Street address and RVG mastering matrix.

The cover has issues but let's go to the LP first: Thick, heavy vinyl, solid and flat, with the address around the deep groove middle. Side 1 label has some discoloration no doubt associated with the moisture damage on the back cover. Side 1 has light superficial general play wear, some light hairlines, minor superficial scuffs and sleeve marks, no big scratches or ugly scuffs. Side 2 is much cleaner with primarily superficial sleeve marks. Nice sheen still present. Neither side are overplayed or worn, just normal play/sleeve wear. I have played this several times myself and enjoyed it immensely. Plays and sounds great, loud with light surface noise here & there, no skips.  If Side 1 looked like Side 2 I'd give this an unequivocal VG++. Matrix: RVG (ear)  BN-LP-1554A   9 M  /  RVG (ear)  BN-LP-1554B   9 M

THE COVER:  Front cover artwork is nice, the lamination has some loose or missing bits along the open side otherwise intact, clean. The bottom right corner has 1" seam split and another 1" of shelf wear, and from the back you can see that part of that split is from moisture damage. The upper 3/4 of the back has obvious typical shelf wear and soil with 'P9B' written in ballpoint. The bottom 1/4 has moisture stains and discoloration and the cover is somewhat 'warped' in that area. The lower 3" of the spine has shelf wear and some flaking along with a bit of wear at the tip including a small lamination chip on the front of that tip. There is a 1" bottom center seam split along with the corner previously described. Top seam is basically intact with a couple of small surface chips. Overall from the front the cover looks like a clean VG or VG+. The back is open to your interpretation. VG- would be generous to my way of thinking.

SO OVERALL, BEING CRITICAL: A NICE SOLID VG TO VG+ LP and VG- cover.
