"Although the sessions in this collection were recorded by the extraordinary Rudy Van Gelder, there are some sonic problems on 2 sessions.

The drums were recorded very "hot" on the March 14, 1961 session and sound at times on the threshold of distortion.  

On the live Birdland date, there is a vibrating, fluttering distortion that takes place intermittently in the horns and sometimes the entire ensemble.

These problems exist on the original master tapes.  They have been corrected as much as possible, but are still aurally present."

Condition of Vinyl:  NEAR MINT Condition

(NEAR MINT – No visible or audible defects, sounds new)

The records were played once or twice on a high end turntable with a very fine quality cartridge.

A few may never have been played.

Condition of Box, etc.:  VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT

Strong and firm, looks almost new, no writing or marking

Appears to have a small tear in the paper surface at the bottom end of the spine or left box edge

This blemish is not very noticeable due to the black color of the box.

Corners of a few of the record sleeves were folded over at one time.
