Arthea "Passages" LP issued by Wergo for the Spectrum series (SM 1065) in Germany, 1987. Gatefold sleeve. ****** Rec:m- Cov:ex ****** Arthea was created in the end of the 1960s under the name Horde Catalytique Pour La Fin in order to investigate the secret within music. With listening as the only guide, conditioned musical responses give away to more unconscious and basic musical states. If the legendary "Gestation Sonore" (first LP as Horde Catalytique Pour La Fin recorded in the early 1970s for Futura Records) and "Horizon" (second LP issued as Goa et Franky Bourlier) were marked by the spirit of "adventure" and "departure", Arthea's "Passages" could be considered the first step into a new direction, bringing with it a bag full of favorite objects collected along the way. The primeval, freely improvised music of the group Arthea, performed on exotic and self-designed instruments specially made at the Athea workshop, feels like a plunge into the many voices of the tropical rain forest. Gradually all of the forms and styles that have ever been practiced on Earth seem to rise up out of a collective musical unconsciousness.
