Description
Here is "HISTORIAE" from the mighty Italian trio ATARAXIA, under the Label Cruel Moon International in 1998. This is the original vinyl release that comes with the original cover and a picture disc. This is a limited edition of only 500 copies. In mint condition.
A few words for this album:
"Historiae" contains 6 studio songs and 3 live songs recorded in a medieval court including the sprightly and, indeed, frisky 'Tempus est iocundum' from the Carmina Burana collection of medieval manuscripts.
Although associated with the dark-folk/neogothic scene, Ataraxia's style and inspiration are heavily medieval and baroque, and this album is based exclusively on medieval ballads. The operatic but dark-edged voice of Francesca Nicoli endows Ataraxia with an unmistakable identity whilst Vittorio Vandelli (classic, acoustic, electric and synth guitars and drum-machine) and Giovanni Pagliari (keyboards, synth, piano and pipe-organ) contribute towards a musical synthesis at once ancient and modern. Another enchanting journey through their unique spiritual realm. Ataraxia is bringing us back to our roots, with adventurous singing and nostalgic music. Following in the same lines as Loreena Mckenit, but with more electric instruments, they leave you daydreaming of palaces, fairies and cheerful pheasant communities. Driving beats and ascending melodies combine with emotional vocals. The live songs, which were recorded in a Medieval court, are very good quality. A bit of Neo Folk, a bit of medieval sound, very close to Dead Can Dance with maybe a little bit of Diamanda Galas thrown in, some Gothic influences and the wonderful voice of Francesca Nicoli make this band something special, so get your copy of this limited in only 500 copies release
