ATLANTIC RHYTHM AND BLUES 1947-1974
14 X DISC VINYL BOX SET: Cat No. 781 620-1
A superb, hard to find collection. Originally released in 1985, this is a German pressing (there was no UK pressing). 186 tracks over 7 double LPs, each in its own gatefold sleeve with extensive liner notes. See the 3rd photo above for full track listing.
In his liner notes, the late Atlantic supremo Ahmet Ertegun states:
“This set documents the highlights of the first 27 years of Atlantic Black Music. It is also a reflection of my early career as a producer of Rhythm and Blues, in the first few years with Herb Abramson, and from many years (since 1953) with Jerry Wexler, and often with Nesuhi Ertegun.”
It is hard to be certain, but to me all of the discs look unplayed. I would certainly confidently grade them as Near Mint or Mint Minus.
The outer box and the gatefold sleeves have some signs of storage and handling, most evident at the top and bottom corners of the gatefold spines. I have tried my best to show these in the photos above. There is also a small piece (8mm x 4mm) of the shiny black outer surface missing from the bottom edge of the box - also pictured above.

We use the Record Collector Magazine system for grading records, as detailed here, with the addition of plus (+) or minus (-) to indicate where we feel a record falls between these levels. However, we recognise that grading is a subjective thing, and that even record dealers and collectors with many years' experience can disagree on the grading of a particular record.

If you are not completely happy with your purchase, you can return your record for a refund, in the original packaging and in the same condition as when it left us. Please message/email us in the first instance so that we aware you will be sending it back, and so that we can give you the return address details. (You will, of course, need to obtain a proof of postage).
