Mega rare (especially in such fantastic EX++ NEAR MINT condition) 1970 UK absolutely earliest 1st Press (on ORIGINAL "ROUGH TEXTURED" labels with the EARLIEST +A /+B matrixes) of truly awesome debut album from the legendary UK prog-band with Vincent Crane on Hammond organ and piano, Nick Graham on bass, vocals & flute and Carl Palmer on drums!

This is the earliest version/mix - from March 1970 - with Nick Graham's vocals (and flute parts) on all tracks. This 1st pressing was 'WITHDRAWN' from sale soon after its initial release!! A few months later the 2nd UK 1970 pressing was made (with smoother - NOT roughly matted labels) - with newly re-recorded version of 3 tracks - with John Cann on vocals and electric guitar INSTEAD of Nick Graham (who had gone to Skin Alley). I repeat: this copy on offer here is the earliest and by far the rarest version of this magnificent progressive rock album!!!

 On offer here, from my own collection, is the absolutely incredible 1970 debut album by the legendary ATOMIC ROOSTER. Original VERY FIRST WEEK of release vinyl pressing LP. Incredible Hammond Organ lead prog with Vincent Crane being undoubtedly one of the masters of the instrument along with Keith Emerson and Brian Auger. Carl Palmer gives great support on the drums prior to him taking the drumstool in ELP. "Atomic Rooster" was the first album that started it all off for the ROOST and is many fans favourite. Based on the mantle of Rhythm and blues , this album took blues based prog rock in a new direction with psychedelic and Canterbury leanings. The line up for this debut album was Nick Graham (bass, guitar, flute and vocals), Vincent Crane (organ) and a very young Carl Palmer (percussion)... (Crane and Palmer were first paired together during their tenure in ARTHUR BROWN'S CRAZY WORLD). This album is a great debut from a great band. Filled with heavy hammond organ and piano, great drumming from Carl Palmer and brilliant song writing from Vincent Crane. Musically this album fits really no specific categorization but I guess you would call this Psych-"Canterbury" school and is really a mix of the work of bands like "EGG", "CARAVAN" , "GRAVY TRAIN" , "VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR" , "PINK FLOYD" and even "COLOSSEUM". An essential album from a historic progressive perspective. Awesome 70's prog rock!!

Most Probably The Best Original B&C Textured Labels UK 'Withdrawn' 1st Press LP You Can Find!!

(A beautiful gleaming MEGA THICK HEAVY slab of vinyl with a SUPER CLEAN, INTENSE HIGH GLOSS full, deep shine. This LP is pressed on super THICK VINYL and is in EXCELLENT++ NEAR MINT condition and plays from MINT to EXCELLENT+ because those B&C pressings (with late 60's rough matt labels) were not the best of all! I have just play tested it today and can report that on playback the sound quality is stunning!! Supremely sharp and perfectly clear loud sound, hardly any noticeable audible crackle at all throughout the tracks, very quiet and hardly any noticeable background noise in between tracks, quiet on the run ins and run offs, no skips, no jumps, no sticking, no serious loud pops or clicks that are noticeable. TOP COPY possible!. It has not been played more than 10 times since I originally bought it during the first week of its initial release in March 1970. This original B&C first pressing still retains its full gloss and sheen with beautiful glossy surfaces, it has that 'just pressed' look and judging by the labels and lack of spindle marks you can clearly see that I have looked after and cared for it extremely well. A magnificent original UK 1st pressing of this seriously rare LP. I seriously doubt if you can find a significantly better condition original 1st pressing than this one!)

(Original first pressing ROUGH TEXTURED green & black B&C labels are in TOP SHAPE. VERY CLEAN and virtually UNMARKED! Under a bright light on very close inspection you can just detect a couple of very faint spindle traces. There is no writing, no stickers, no stamps , no real wear at all. A beautiful set of these very rare thick textured B& C labels)

Sleeve: EX

(The unlaminated single sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition. It is a SEMI SHEEN finish, and it is VERY CLEAN. The sleeve is 'Printed and Made by the E.J.Day Group, London and Bedford' and features striking cover artwork by Adrian George. On the front there are just a couple of very insignificant light creases, really hardly noticeable. The back is also very clean with just very light age wear, a light crease near the spine, and two very faint rubber stamp marks near the spine (hardly noticeable). The top and bottom seams have a little shelfwear rubbing. The spine also has a few tiny scuffs and a little rubbing. Overall an excellent example of this 40 years vintage unlaminated matt sleeve and I'm sure one of the best you will see)

On offer here, from my own collection, is a superb EXCELLENT+near MINT condition ORIGINAL UK 1st pressing of ATOMIC ROOSTER's self-titled 1970 debut LP "ATOMIC ROOSTER", issued on the UK original 1st press B&C (Charisma owned) label. I bought this album the very first week it was originally released, back in March 1970, from my local record shop. The very few times it has been played have always been on a high quality record deck. This copy is the impossibly RARE and legendary 'WITHDRAWN' from sale 1st PRESS with the original mix!! Please read below for more details.

ATOMIC ROOSTER "ATOMIC ROOSTER" the bands' great self-titled 1970 debut album is very highly recommended to anyone looking for Hammond organ-driven rock of the early 70's and to anyone looking for high-energy prog-rock.

This debut album by Atomic Rooster is something truly special. Coming out of the ashes of The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Vincent Crane took drummer extraordinaire Carl Palmer with him to form Atomic Rooster. The sound of Atomic Rooster is heavy, progressive, bluesy and also soulful. They can perhaps be vaguely compared to Deep Purple, ELP, Beggar's Opera and a handful of other heavy, keyboard driven bands of the very early 70's.

Vincent Crane was something of a genius and, like many geniuses he was also a bit crazy! His lyrics are obsessed with death, like in the beautiful Winter which contains the lyric "what is the point of going on and on and on...?" There is some lovely Ian Anderson like flute in this song.

As I have already said, the sound of Atomic Rooster is heavily keyboard driven. The keyboards are mainly Hammond and piano. The other main instruments are bass, drums and some guitar. The drum solo in Decline And Fall is so obviously Carl Palmer - he already had his distinctive style at this point. The whole album is very experimental and bluesy in places, mixed with a heavy barrage of Hammond and thudding thick bass from Nick Graham. The band feature some great riffs - guitar solos and grinding Hammond throughout - their signature sound on all albums.

There are some classic tracks on here that have become legendary among AR fans: 'Friday 13th', 'Winter', 'Banstead', 'S.L.Y.' and the blues-driven 'Broken Wings' are wonderful and it is little wonder that they have featured on best of compilations for years. My favourite is probably 'Banstead' with its repeated plea, "please take me out of this place" - it is based on a mental hospital; perhaps a prophecy of the decline of Vincent's sanity that would ultimately destroy him. The track features some excellent Hammond and an off-kilter time signature that is pure prog. The hypnotic riff of S.L.Y is compelling and feels a little like blues mixed with a heavy riff and organ trade off.

Overall the album is a terrific debut for the band. The material is uniformally strong and the lyrics are thoughtful and existential even if more than a bit bleak. Very underrated and essential album for anyone interested in early 70's heavy Prog.

Atomic Rooster were responsible for some of the all-time best hard-prog rock albums and should figure in any serious prog rock collection.

On offer here is a VERY rare LP (especially in this condition!!) by ATOMIC ROOSTER called 'ATOMIC ROOSTER' and is an ORIGINAL 1970 UK 1st Pressing on the 1st Press 'Textured' B&C label!!  THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!  THIS WAS ATOMIC ROOSTERS FIRST & RAREST LP EVER - AND VIRTUALLY NEVER TURNS UP FOR SALE!!  JUST TRY AND FIND ANOTHER ONE!!  BACK IN 1970 WHEN THIS LP WAS FIRST RELEASED - IT ONLY EVER SOLD IN ABSOLUTELY TINY AMOUNTS, AND WAS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DELETED!!  AS A RESULT IT IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOCATE TODAY!!  BUT WHAT MAKES THIS LP REALLY SPECIAL IS THAT IT IS THE ABSOLUTELY 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSING EVER MADE!!  AMAZINGLY IT HAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MATRIXES, MIX & TRACK ORDER COMPARED TO ALL LATER PRESSINGS!!!!  ONLY A FEW HUNDRED WERE EVER PRESSED - AND IT WAS CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY!!  I WILL EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHERE THIS PRESSING FITS INTO THE PRESSING ORDER BELOW - AND EXPLAIN JUST EXACTLY WHY THIS IS THE RAREST ATOMIC ROOSTER LP ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD TODAY!!  HERE IS THE PRESSING ORDER:

VERY GOOD (VG): Has been played many times but has no major deterioration in sound quality, despite some noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches. Cover and extras will have normal wear and tear but no major defects

GOOD (G): Has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and any extras may suffer from folding, scuffing, split spine, discoloration etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable and has considerable surface noise and may even jump. Cover and contents will be torn stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly. Covers badly damaged or partly missing
