Artist: AUGUSTO COEN Y SU ORQUESTA - Cantando y Riendo Label: C-18515 US - SHELLAC 10" 78rpm - Matrix: C0-18515/2
Condition: Record: G+ (5/10): surface marks; The disc is stuck on the back side because it was partially fractured. A very rare record and even rarer because Augusto himself sings with his orchestra. However, it is a rare record and this recording is worth preserving. It sounds good. Hear!.

Augusto Coen: Puerto Rican musician and orchestra leader (Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1895 - 1970) Born into a Jewish and and Afro-Puerto Rican family, Coén played in municipal bands in Puerto Rico. After moving to New York, Coén worked in Broadway pit bands and played with the Cubanacáns. In 1934 he formed Augusto Coen Y Sus Boricuas, the first true Latin-style big band, and became the first important Puerto Rican band leader in the New York scene.
