Thanks for viewing this item. I'm a UK collector of 78's and I have a number of surplus records for disposal (duplicates or records that I don't play often enough). Here we have two extremely rare records (yes - two of them!) recorded by Al Bowlly with Arthur Briggs Savoy Syncopators in Berlin during 1927. Al Bowlly was still developing as a singer and Briggs had an excellent hot band. Both records contain excellent solos. Thats the good news - now for the bad - they are in awful condition! Dull surfaces, lots of surface noise, scratches, distortion and a couple of small digs that play through on my equipment but stick on another turntable! Please be aware that these records dont make for easy listening! Having said all that, with a careful choice of stylus and tracking adjusted they become a bit quieter! Maybe someone out there can get better results from them than I can? Nevertheless these are very rare records and are some of the earliest examples of Al Bowlly on record and they contain some excellent solos, especially from Briggs. The titles are:
Sometimes I'm Happy (Bowlly) and Hallelujah (no vocal)
Ain't That A Grand and Glorious Feeling (Bowlly) and There is a Little White House (no vocal)
Oddly, none of the sides show a vocal chorus on the label.
