Description
In all of record collecting, few records bring a thousand dollars. And even fewer have values as high as this, one of the legendary rarities in collector's circles... the 10 inch Aladdin album. Every 10 inch Aladdin produced is rare. Very few were actually distributed (reportedly in the low hundreds), and even fewer remain intact, and playable. But, the RED WAX pressings of anything on Aladdin is the ultimate in that "rare" status.
I believe you'll find THIS lp, PARTY AFTER HOURS, to be the cleanest copy ever offered for sale. It is unplayed. The labels are bright and shiny, and the vinyl itself is a GLOSSY, SHINY RED. There are NO scratches... not even "paper scuffs"!!! This is a GEM MINT album.
The label reads Aladdin 702, the cover lists Aladdin 703. This is the way it was released. Charles Brown's MOOD MUSIC also has the label numbered 702. Being a small label, Aladdin had very little "quality control", and obviously they overlooked the repetitive release numbers.
The Black and White (almost sepia) cover is a strong VERY GOOD PLUS, with the spine beautifully intact. There are NO seam splits, the cover face is gorgeous and clean, no wear or writing. There is minimal wear along the top and bottom spine, which is nothing more than some of the black ink used to print this cover being worn slightly over years of storage. I've scanned this in detail to hopefully show you the sheer beauty of this item, cover AND record. The BACK cover is blank, no printing. There is minor aging... this is OLD paper stock, remember. It's very appealing, both front AND back.
Because this vinyl is red, not black, Aladdin used virgin RED vinyl biscuits (the blobs of wax that became the actual record) that tended to pick up any imperfections in the stampers. So, you'll notice (in the scans here) some black flecks that came from earlier pressings of other Aladdin lps. Also, the vinyl has a wavy appearance, being somewhat thinner than the heavy black vinyl of other lps. The LABELS are 78 rpm labels with the album information printed on them. This was another unusual thing Aladdin did for this pressing. It gives this release a very unique appearance.
GEM MINT red vinyl 10 inch album, with a VERY GOOD PLUS investment grade cover.
I've placed a reserve on this lp of $4000. I'm being upfront about this. The record can be viewed by appointment, in Virginia, before this auction closes. I can be reached by phone at 804-536-3853. Satisfaction IS guaranteed on this item. I've been collecting since 1965, selling since the mid 70's. I know and understand rare records. THIS IS the nicest Aladdin lp I've ever seen, in ANY size.
When this album was purchased, it was found shelved with another 10 inch: AMOS MILBURN's ROCKIN' THE BOOGIE (Aladdin 704). The disc inside the Milburn cover was CHARLES BROWN's MOOD MUSIC (Aladdin 702, Black vinyl). Although not "marked" as such, these were issued as promotional copies, and never played. I purchased them from the radio station employee who kept them preserved all these years. But his tastes were in Classical, not Blues. This is the reason the album I'm listing here remained perfect for so long.
For anyone interested, with the right offer, I have a Nearly gem MINT black vinyl copy of CHARLES BROWN's MOOD MUSIC 10 inch disc (sans cover) that I may list, or entertain offers on. I also have a nearly perfect COVER (sepia; tan and brown) to AMOS MILBURN's ROCKIN' THE BOOGIE (without a disc)
