Description
I am cleaning out a house deep in the backwoods of Louisiana and the estate has been closed for several decades. There are many French Cajun 78 records from the 1920s to the 1930s that I will auction. Today's listing is this original 1929 Columbia 78 numbered 40515F by Amede (Armadie) Ardoin, the father of French Creole music in Louisiana. During his short lifetime he recorded 31 songs including these two produced in Dec 1929-"Madam Atchen" and "Two Step de Prarie Soileau"
Mr. Ardoin, a petite black man in the Jim Crow South, was talented in composing, singing, and playing the accordion. He gained regional popularity and played to both black and white audiences. Questions about his death linger to this day.
I am not a record expert. These records have been stored away and not played for close to 90 years. There are two very minor rim nicks that do not go all the way through the record but I have included photographs of them. Also there is label wear where the record rest ed on the spindle. Please do not hesitate to ask questions or require more pictures. I have played the records and they play well. I will be auctioning about 15 more early Cajun 78s and will combine shipping
