Various Artists "American Primitive Vol 1: Raw Pre-War Gospel (1926-36)"
A rare and raw collection here of early gospel/blues recordings. Not a lot of well known musicians here, though Charley Patton makes an appearance as Elder JJ Hadley. Also featuring Blind Roosevelt Graves and Rev. Edward Clayborn. Great Packaging- Double LP on Clear Vinyl. Gatefold Sleeve with detailed liner notes, including a part by John Fahey. Inner cardboard sleeves lined with plastic with more info.
From my personal collection, I am the original owner. TESTED and PLAYS GREAT. Though it's hard to grade colored Vinyl, let's assume that the Vinyl shows signs of handling and wear- smudges and surface scratches that don't effect play. Cover is in great condition with some small dents, creases, scratches, smudges, ringwear and discoloration. There is damage to the spine. Inner sleeves have some small dents, ringwear and smudges. Revenant records did an excellent job on the packaging here, but the cardstock they used was a poor, although fashionable, choice. Every time I handled this record I'd leave smudges on the paper cover and inner sleeves. And the discoloration of the paper set on fast and makes it look older than it is. Take into consideration these are OLD recordings, pressed onto new vinyl. There are pops, hisses and "surface noise" that just come with the territory. The vinyl here is in great condition, but it will still sound old and crunchy. Overall, great condition.
I grade conservatively. I ship within 5 days. Stored in a smoke-free home but not a pet-free home. I have cats :)
