For Sale – An Ideal for Living EP –Joy Division original 1978 copy This is an authentic first pressing of the original 1978 7” black vinyl stereo 45rpm EP with serrated edges around the label. It was bought by my dad in the summer of 1978 from a record shop in the Underground Market just off Market Street in Manchester city centre. Artist: JOY DIVISION. Title: AN IDEAL FOR LIVING Side 1: ‘WARSAW’ and ‘NO LOVE LOST’ Side 2: ‘LEADERS OF MEN’ and ‘FAILURES OF THE MODERN MAN’ Label: ENIGMA RECORDS PSS 139. Matrix / Runout (Side A runout): PSS-139-EP-A-1 EG Matrix / Runout (Side B runout): PSS-139-EP-B-1 EG.
It is one of only 1000 copies of this EP which was recorded at Pennine Sound Studio in December 1977, and was released on the band's own label. The picture sleeve was printed on a 14" x 14" piece of card and then folded into four squares. It is still even in the original thin polythene bag cover that it came in. The original picture sleeve is in excellent condition as can be seen from the photographs, having been stored in a record case since 1978. There is some very slight yellowing to its extreme edges, but it has no tears or marks. The labels are in great condition with just a couple of light spindle marks. The disc itself is in excellent condition with no scratches or marks at all, having only been played 3 or 4 times in total (my dad actually didn’t like the tracks and so it was banished into storage soon after he bought it). None of the copies I have seen offered recently on eBay are as good as this one. As you will see from the photographs, this EP and its sleeve are in truly excellent condition. And all because my dad didn’t like it!
