Description
The sum of what I know is here: This copy is a super rare pressing of CL 2193 in mono with the "Guaranteed High Fidelity" label where the lp labels are textured. That is to say, the record label has a grid pattern of Columbia "eyes" in raised relief. Stamped matrix numbers in the dead wax are: Side 1 – XLP-77042-2D, Side 2 - XLP-77043-2D.
This mono copy is a first commercial release of CL 2193 with the number "4" printed in the lower right-hand side of the back cover. The "4" indicates that the pressing is from the Imperial Packing Co., Inc., Indianapolis, Ind.
No one knows for sure how many of copies of CL 2193 were printed with the raised relief label. In my search, folks put the numbers in double digits at best. Searching For A Gem, a site on Dylan's record variations shows at least four other known copies. An eBay listing from years ago indicated that 5 were known, while how that number came about is anyone's guess, yet 6 have exchanged hands according to Popsikes. Clearly this pressing with the raised relief label is super rare. This record has scratches on both sides, yet it plays through nicely but with surface noise and occasional pops and tics. While the record has shiny gloss as seen above, it has track noise too, so I rate it VG to G+ considering Goldmine standards. But the raised relief label makes this copy highly collectible. As seen in the photos, the cover has dings on the lower edge, some missing paper on the lower back. The cover looks warped, it is not, just the way I held it makes it look that way.
The lp has been cleaned on a VPI17 record cleaning machine. The lp is resleeved.
