Description
Released by Apple/Track in 1968, catalogue number 613012 (SAPCOR 2); this is the John Lennon & Yoko One collaboration “Two Virgins”.
I acquired this copy from the family of the deceased original owner in 2005. The owner was one of the early sixties DJ’s who lead what can only be described as the swinging sixties lifestyle. He wasn’t particularly good – we have reel to reel tapes of some of his performances at the Brighton Ballroom – but clearly he knew the right people and mixed with the right people and maintained a career in music broadcasting, production and club DJ until his enforced retirement due to ill health.
The original owner accumulated a huge collection of vinyl, but had no concept of value or worth. We discovered this album amongst a random box, undisturbed for decades. He concentrated on northern soul so the vast majority of the collection was played once upon receipt to review, and then put away into storage.
Supplementary
I would imagine that the original owner bought this record as it comes with a brown paper bag. Why a brown paper bag? Well, considering the pornographic nature of the cover, how could any self-respecting shop display this on their shelves? No-one I have spoken to has come across a copy thus supplied, but I have every confidence that this brown paper bag is exactly how the record was bought and exactly how it has been preserved for 41 years!
Sleeve
The fully laminated sleeve is in excellent condition. There is a degree of laminate lift on either side of the spine – more so on the rear of the sleeve. There is slight ringwear; again more noticeable on the rear. All seams are undamaged and the opening edge is clean and straight.
Inner Sleeve
The black inner sleeve is clean, straight and true. For safety purposes, the record is stored in a poly-lined sleeve and will be sent in the way with the original inner sleeve inside the outer sleeve.
Record Labels
Both labels are clean with no damage or writing. Close inspection under strong light reveals a couple light spindle marks on each label. Clearly, not a record that was played very much!
Playing Surfaces
The record has a couple very light hairlines viewed under a strong light. The record plays with an odd pop here and there, consistent with a barely-played record that needs playing to reveal its true potential. The record grades a very conservative excellent.
Postage and Packing
The record will be packed in a “pizza style” box with copious card and bubble wrap. The sleeve will be packed individually so as to prevent any damage in transit. It will also be enclosed in a polythene sleeve so that if the package comes into contact with water it will not get wet. The record will likewise be so protected.
Postage maybe listed as free, but there is no way on this planet this record will be sent by anything other than a secure postal service. Likely costs are £6.70 UK, £13.50 for European destinations and £18.70 for USA and the Rest of the World. Payment by Paypal is preferred from verified users and will only be sent to a confirmed delivery address. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.
