Description
So, I don't know if this is rare or what. It doesn't look like anything else I see on eBay right now for this album.
It is MONO 8176.
1968 Atlantic Recording Corporation.
The inner sleeve is a dark taupe that is printed with The Atlantic Group.
Here's where it gets interesting....
The label is white. Which means it's a PROMO.
BUT, the song titles and the length of the songs look like they are TYPED from a typewriter. It has the Atlantic logo (light gray) and the black part at the top and bottom of the circle (name and address) are pre-printed, but the rest looks typed: Aretha's name, the name of the album, the song titles and the lengths. All NOT pre-printed.
VERY faintly, either under or shadowed on both sides of the label I can make out the words TEST PRESSING (you can barely see it in the photos above the Atlantic logo). I can also see the words DATE, REMARKS, CUSTOMER (maybe?), and perhaps dotted lines where people were supposed to write something. It appears that the white typed label was put over a test pressing label. That's my guess. ,
Niki Hoeky is spelled Hokey on the label.
The "i" in Since You've Been Gone is dropped lower (like when you used to have to backspace and correct with the white tape) and SinceYou've are mashed together.
Groovin' does not have the apostrophe.
Also, the length of Chain of Fools is different from the cover time.
WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?? Given the logo and Atlantic printing, the label is legit. But it seems like a promo promo.
Something else that seems different from the other covers I've seen on line. The part that says MONO 8176 is at the bottom of the cover and there is a 1.5 inch blue band at the bottom.
I'm open to any info or questions.
Record is GOOD - Moderate scratching.
Inner sleeve is VG. There is a tiny spot on the top that looks like it was clipped with a hole punch, which is the promo symbol. It's about half a hole punch. There is no hole punch in the album cover.
Cover is FAIR - ring, name written on back, significant wear on all edges, general grunginess, split at top.
I bought this at a yard sale where I bought a couple of other promo albums (Joan Armatrading and BOSS KHJ radio station).
Any dark areas are shadows from my arms and phone.
I have other albums for sale and will combine shipping.
MEDIA MAIL - slower but cheaper.
If this album sells for more than $100, shipping will be PRIORITY at buyer's expense, not MEDIA MAIL.

Ok, even more info. As I do more research, I gather that these are things bidders want to know:
Matrix # A-12733-A LW AT JA W (it could be an M, but it really looks like a W)
B side # A-12734-B LW AT JA M (I know it sounds crazy, but this one looks more like an M).
Also, I just noticed that the taupe inner paper sleeve has a 1-inch split on the right side, and a 2-inch split on the left side. Downgrade the condition accordingly.
