Description
Here we have a very rare 1st pressing of Art Blakey's A Night At Birdland Vol. 1 LP. This is the original first issue of this album with the 161 Lexington Ave. address in the label. This album was one of the 1st albums Blue Note produced in the 12" LP format in 1956, since the record was previously issued on the 10" LP format. This is also the original 1st cover as the album was issued again in the late 50's with a new cover. The vinyl itself is a VG- with surface scratches and scuffs on both sides of the record. I played the whole record through on my turntable and speaker system and it played without any skips. However, there are pops and crackles throughout the record, but are mostly unnoticeable due to the loudness of the songs. There is one area on side 1 track 2, around the middle of the song, where there's a super loud pop but only occurs once. The record features the Rudy Van Gelder stamp in the dead wax. Both labels are clean and free of writing. The cover is in VG-, or a strong G, due to a large strip of tape down the right hand side of the back cover. There are also three areas of writing in pen on the back cover. There is standard shelf wear and edge wear throughout the cover. An original Blue Note paper sleeve is included with your purchase. Overall, this is a good copy of the very hard to find album that does not come up very often. In fact, just the disc alone sold for $66 last month on ebay, without a cover and the condition G. This would make an exceptional addition to your jazz collection. This record is being sold as is and as found. Please view all pictures to get a sense of the condition of the item. Thank you!
