Art Farmer Septet "Work Of Art" 1954
RARE Prestige Records (PRLP 162), Mono, "Ear"
The tracks on this elegantly concise record form one half of Farmer's later Prestige full-length, The Art Farmer Septet, arranged (and partially composed) by Quincy Jones and Gigi Gryce. Jones appears in the septet, trading in his trumpet for the piano bench, alongside Jimmy Cleveland on trombone, Cliff Solomon on tenor sax, and others. "An excellent early hard bop set," Allmusic writes. "Ear" inscribed on both sides' dead wax. The center label indicates Prestige's 50th St., New York City, address. This record is in VG condition, with some very hairline scratches on the vinyl. The cover is in great condition, with only a few light pencil marks and the remains of a music store stamp on the back cover. (See pictures above for more details.)TRACK LISTING:
