Description
Here is a sweet pair of the same album picked from a classical music lover's estate in Hillsborough, CA with one signed copy and one plain. The John Hancock insurance company celebrated its 100th anniversary with this commemorative recording by Arthur Fiedler. Recorded in September 1961 at Webster Hall in New York City with mezzo-soprano Mildred Miller as the soloist. Selections from Carmen, the Barber of Seville, Samson and Delilah and others are included.
Both covers are in excellent condition and the Fiedler signature is very crisp. The Miller signature is very slightly smudged likely right as it was collected from her. Very nice presentation of the two signatures inside each zero of the 100 notation. The vinyl has been play-graded as VG using side 1 of one album and side 2 of the other--that is to say the lesser side of each is more like Good, but together you have a VG copy.
Boston native Arthur Fiedler (December 17, 1894 – July 10, 1979)[1] was a long-time conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra, a symphony orchestra that specializes in popular and light classical music. With a combination of musicianship and showmanship, he made the Boston Pops one of the best-known orchestras in the United States of America.
Mildred Miller (born December 16, 1924) is an American classical mezzo-soprano who had a major career performing in operas, concerts, and recitals during the mid twentieth century. She was notably a principal artist at the Metropolitan Opera from 1951 through 1974. In 1978 she founded the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, serving as the company's Artistic Director through 1999.
With Maestro Fiedler having passed and Ms. Miller now in her nineties, this is a rare opportunity to collect two pretty rate autographs.
