Description
Arthur Mullard & Hylda Baker – “Band on the Trot” (PYE, PKL 5576). 1978 vinyl LP, which is probably one of the hardest “novelty” records to find. There were some big names behind this release. Co-producer was actor, comedian and singer Kenny Lynch, whilst “album conception” is credited to Eric Hall, former EMI publicist who, amongst other big names, worked with Marc Bolan. The album is, of course, dreadful, with neither Arthur Mullard and Hylda Baker making any attempt to actually sing. The production isn’t great either, and the album gives the impression that it was thrown together in a day. Album opener is “You’re the One that I want”, a Top 30 hit for the duo, but the joke wears a little thin over 16 tracks and the disc is now very scarce.
Sleeve has some light wear, mainly ring-wear. There is also a piece of sticker damage on the top right back of the sleeve (please see second picture). Vinyl has only light visual wear, and plays to an excellent standard. In fact, I doubt if it played any better when it was new (yes, I HAVE listened to the whole thing!).
