From my own vast private collection gathered over last 45+ years ...these mostly from 1973 - 1978 I had my own Record Store here in Northern California in the 1970's and 80's -and bringing in wonderfully vibrant and amazing Progressive Rock Imports was a top specialty and priority - I was (still am) so nuts about this music that I had 3 different evolving weekly Radio Programs dedicated to it over 20 years - and loved nothing more than turning folks on to these bands and immersing myself and my audience in these exotic sounds. Now it is finally time for me to pass them on - my hardest LPs to part with, some 8 boxes of which I shall be listing throughout this Spring. Many of the leading progenitors of the 1st progressive era, but quite a few more obscure but no less amazing artists of the period. . *Sadly I am NOT FAST at listing and can am lucky to get around 50 up at a time, but they will keep on coming (as I pause between series, to focus on top level packing and immediate shipping) so keep checking back.

ASHRA was the second phase of the Berlin school spacy Krautrock pioneers Ash Ra Tempel, where founder (and, sometimes, sole member) Manuel Göttsching refocused the project's direction and began to concentrate more heavily on electronics. Especially with the revolving-door membership, Göttsching had always been the focal point of Ash Ra Tempel, making their mind-bending psychedelic jams into showcases for his cosmic guitar work.

On "BLACKOUTS", Göttsching fully integrated his distinctive electric guitar playing into the electronic soundscapes that he had started to explore on the previous album. As a result, the album feels sometimes like a combination of "Inventions for Electric Guitar" and "New Age of Earth".

This also makes it perhaps the definitive Göttsching/Ashra album, as it remains the best and most complete amalgamation of the two sides of his musical personality.

The opener "77 Slightly Delayed" is an excellent example of how good this works, as his guitar and electronics glides into a seamless, otherworldly,dream-like and hypnotizing sound. "Midnight on Mars" is much in the same vein, and was undoubtedly inspired by the fantastic photographs from Mars that Viking 1 had brought back to earth two years earlier. "Don't Trust the Kids" has a pulsing - almost funky - rhythm that is perhaps the earliest instance of Göttsching delving into the interior drives of the body as well as the mind. This track evolves and glides straight into the faster and intense title-track "Blackouts".

On side 2 "Shuttle Cock" is based around a compelling steady and upbeat rhythm, setting the table for the album's premier piece: the nearly 17-minute "Lotus" is Göttsching at his most magic, creating a hallucinogenic carpet of swirling dream-realm soundscapes. "Blackouts" is a good place to start to explore Göttsching's literally musical universe
