Excellent condition original UK release of a fine blues rock album. Well played blues rock varying between meaner moodier slower tracks and some more uptempo material, great guitar throughout and a lovely organ sound from Victor Brox which provides a groovy feel on some tracks but a malevolent spooky feel on others. Excellent album in nice condition.
Aynsley Dunbar’s albums are some of the most under-rated of the UK late sixties blues rock albums, all of them have merit and this is one of his best. All of his albums are now hard to find as prog and psych collectors have joined the blues rock collectors in realising how good they are. This is a nice condition original blue label copy (the more common later pressing has a black label) which would be at home in any good collection of late sixties rock or blues albums.
Condition: Sleeve
Standard single sleeve design laminated on the front only with no manufacturer’s name given. Very strong condition throughout. The stricking negative effect design on the front was designed by Hipgnosis.
The front is extremely clean with no real faults, there are a handful of small crows feet type creases coming in from the spine but apart from that it’s in fine condition and looks great at arms length in a PVC sleeve. There’s no tears, no writing, no lamination creases other than those already mentioned, no ringwear or any other type of wear, very nice!
The rear cover is also in nice shape, very clean, no tears, no writing, no creasing, no ringwear or any other type of wear, difficult to find any faults here.
Both top and bottom seams are totally unworn. The four corners are all sharp and well defined. The open edge is sharp with no feathering. The spine is clean and unworn with all of the writing clearly readable, the spine has also retained the pinching at the top and bottom.
Condition: Record
The record itself is also in fine condition. It made from good quality vinyl which is very clean and has retained a nice dark sheen. When viewed in normal light there is a small very light scuff mark on the first track which is totally inaudible, there’s also an even smaller and even lghter scuff on the last track of side two which is only visible when the record is viewed with the light at the correct angle, again this is totally inaudible. When viewed under an extremely harsh, revealing lamp I’m happy to say that no further surface marks are revealed.
Both labels are very clean and in perfect condition.
When played the disc sounds superb with a clean, clear, very detailed sound which compliments the music perfectly. There is the odd extremely light crackle audible at times between tracks, not a constant crackling sound you understand and not between every track, just very occasionally there’s a light click between tracks which will probably only be audible at high volume. These sounds in no way interfere with the music which sounds fine. When I played it there was nothing to spoil my enjoyment of this fine record, no pops, clicks or crackles (other than those occasional between track noises already mentioned), none of the groovewear or distortion which this generation of record so regularly suffer from, certainly no jumping or sticking just highly enjoyable music reproduced extremely well.
So, not the rarest UK blues rock album of the late sixties but not a one that’s easily found in good condition so when a nice copy like this comes along it should not be missed.
