This is the ultra rare third LP by Portuguese folk prog legend Banda do Casaco. Originally released in 1977, it mixes traditional Portuguese music with progressive rock and sounds from all over the world. Sometimes, their sound is compared to top French band Malicorne, but Banda do Casaco even manage to show a greater capability in musical terms and always deliver more than you’re expecting.

In this record you’ll find the members of the group first dalliance with the Indian sitar, which features in two tracks, or with the mellotron (which is played by José Castro, member of Petrus Castrus), but there’s also room for vocal experiments and word games. Sometimes they build their songs taking on from traditional tunes, but they always completely reinvent them and rearrange them in a progressive folk rock style. This is the first Banda do Casaco record where Tó Pinheiro da Silva, from prog rock group Perspectiva, plays, and you’ll also find that there are 3 violin players in total! The overall sound is quite beautiful! Among the other guest musicians, there’s saxophone player Rão Kyao (who, on his own, has recorded some jazz rock albums in the late 1970’s), Daphne and Judi Brennan (who have previously played with Música Novarum, the legendary outfit led by Nuno Rodrigues in the late 1960’s) and Gabriela Schaaf, a Swiss-born singer who was discovered by Banda do Casaco (and who tried her luck in Portuguese Song Contest in 1979, although she didn’t win and consequently didn’t represent the country in Eurovision).

You won’t find any of these tracks in any other record, as they were only released on this LP. Be advised that this is indeed a true original band, and you’ll never anything alike anywhere in the world!
