BARRY GRAY ORCHESTRA – Thunderbirds Are Go ORIG United Artists LP / SULP 1159 (UK, Stereo, 1967)
Happy to present surely one of the most iconic soundtrack LPs of all time (especially for UK collectors) – the rare ORIGINAL stereo press of Gerry Anderson’s ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’ from 1967. Music of course comes from the maestro himself, Barry Gray, never talked about in the same league as say, John Barry, but to me, equally important in shaping the television soundtrack of the Swinging 60s.
Original front laminated, flipback sleeve is very nice for its 44 years. Grades VG+ (Very Good Plus) with just a few light creases to the front, slight staining to the rear panel and some initials and a number written on the back, here. Some slight scribble to the front (hardly noticeable) but no tears, loose flips, tape or stickers. Should please most.
The black and silver UA labels have the embossed ‘KT’ to Side 1 and are a very nice pair with only light spindle evidence around the centre hole. No writing, stickers or residue either.
The sharp medium/heavy vinyl sits perfectly flat and is in a nice VG+ (Very Good Plus) condition. By this I mean that under normal indoor light there is little to fault but examine in broad daylight and you’ll find quite a bit of (light) surface scuffing, some thin hairlines and one or two light surface scratches (not feelable). It plays just fine and is an incredibly rich and deep pressing. I picked up a couple of light ticks to Side1/Track 2 – the odd click later on, on this side and two clicks to S2/T2. Remember, I carefully listen to ALL records I sell, therefore you can rest assured there are no major audio faults with this LP. No nasty hiss, repeated clicks, distortion or loss of clarity. No real ‘crackle’ either more light dust static in the quieter parts. All in all has survived incredibly well for a 1960’s album meant to be listened to and handled by children!
It’s a rare piece anyway and seldom comes up for sale but here is a very respectable copy.

I do not use any more than ONE plus or minus between grades. After all, WHAT ON EARTH DOES VG+++++ MEAN? What is NM+? Or EX---? These are just some of the ridiculous gradings I’ve encountered on eBay. I am very careful using the EX (Excellent) grade. Excellent, by dictionary definition means ‘extremely good’ NOT ‘marked and slightly beat up with wear’!
