Label Conditions: HOLY ATTRACTIVE LABELS BATMAN!!! Both look immaculate with only very light and faint spindle marks.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Bat-Record: 152 grams. [These days, many modern Audiophile reissues are pressed on super-heavyweight 180 gram vinyl. Only a small percentage of ‘vintage vinyl’ was ever pressed this heavy. Records pressed in the 1960s averaged around 135 to 145 grams. Records pressed in the 1970s were usually lighter and averaged more around 115 – 125 grams. Some records pressed around 1973 were very thin and light due an oil crisis and shortage around this time. Some records were even issued on recycled vinyl from this period and sounded poor with crackle and surface noise evident from the very first play. If any record I buy is deemed ‘recycled’, I will never offer it, I have a very simple test to detect these records if I suspect this to be the case other than audible imperfection. Some records from this period were even pressed on other materials the most notable was ‘Dynaflex’, used by RCA around this time. Although inferior to vinyl, this at least mostly sounded reasonably acceptable but pressings on this material were wafer thin and flimsy. Beyond the 70s, many records often became thinner and lighter still but most played fine but were never quite the quality as from the ‘Golden Era’]. (This was based on ‘average’ weights for 50 records from these eras.

Bat-Rarity: POW, BIFF, CRUNCH – this is a rare one, seldom seen or offered and this is a time-piece gem for fans of a certain age. I don’t think I ever missed an episode back in the 60s.

Brief Bat-Info: TO THE BATPOLES!! … This is the original TV Batman with Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo. This rare 1966 ultimate first pressed Stateside record features one of the most famous television theme tunes ever written and with more action music and dialogue from the super-heroes and arch villians, this makes for great vintage entertainment that will bring the memories flooding back to those of a similar age to myself. KAPOWWW!!!, just look at that fantastic cover artwork, the caped crusaders in the famous original Batmobile, this is the comic-book version of Gotham City’s saviours. Memories of collecting those bubblegum trading cards when at school and tuning in to the television two-part episodes in anticipation of which arch-villian would be featured this time – The Joker?, Egghead?, The Riddler, Catwoman? or The Penguin? Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson sliding down the Batpoles – then seen again as Batman and Robin – the roaring of the Batmobile out of the Batcave – this was as good as 60s Comic Book heroes got in the 1960s. SOCK, POW, BIFF!!!! this is a stunning copy, from the same collection of near unplayed records recently acquired. Both cover and record are in near unbeatable condition and the sound quality is the same. For fans of the original TV batman, this is a priceless piece, truly I have not seen one of these since the 60s myself and then only the once. How I am allowing myself to let this go, I really don’t know.

Bat-Cover Grade and Format: HOLY INCREDIBLE BATMAN!!!! Another Bat-tastic EX++ archive cover from the vaults of the Batcave. A single format with front laminate, this wraps around the closed edges and on to three external rear flipbacks. Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse and has the ‘Patents pending’ text. THAT’S RIGHT ROBIN!!!!

Lamination & Front: Superb laminate is fresh, clean, clear and shiny, and importantly, fully adhered with no lifting or blisters. A faint trace of mottling (tiny bubbles) if viewed critically under light. With just one crease, just below moderate on the bottom edge, any others are mainly fine edge hairline types that show little, this has near maximum attractiveness and the artwork looks simply incredible. The laminate ends a fraction short of full width on the right side, but the fine exposed strip is clean and unworn. Any friction rubs or dulling is very light and mild, a slight record impression is visible under light but with a 152 gram record inside since the year England won the Football World Cup, is that really a surprise? It will take an incredible example to better this and this really is one for the connoisseur collector of the genre.

Cover Back: The back is also in great condition: The main back panel, unprotected of course, has little to fault at all. Any traces of grubbiness are minuscle and creasing the same. The flipbacks are very solid and have clean ends with only minimal traces of any burring to the ends on the bottom. Some light surface creases only and the imprint text is perfect.

Top Edge: Straight with full laminate, barely any traces of wear.

Bottom Edge: Faint tone traces near the left corner but little real wear at all, also straight.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, quite sharp with little wear and no feathering. Slightly rustic trim in manufacture and no cutting or enhancements. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight, uncompressed with the ends gently tapered in manufacture. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate. Very slightly toning traces being critical.

Corners: The spine pair have rubbed very slightly, little on the right. Fine shape is retained.

Cover Summary: A very strong and really attractive all round example of this elusively scarce 60’s Batcover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please most collectors.

The Bat-Inner: This vintage album includes its tracing paper style lined inner, similar to those used in Beatles albums of this period. This is strong EX, two small tears around the window rim have been repaired by myself. The fragile lining is near perfect and there are no edge splits or other tears. Slightly age-toned but devoid of any noteworthy creasing. The top recessed opening is very neat indeed which gives good clues to the fact the record has rarely made the trip out.

Bat-Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: TO THE BATMOBILE!!!!!!! EX+ with little more than fine, whispy surface marks under light with the odd more evident surface mark, all have NO effect on sound. A superb visual copy that is super clean, shiny, intense black and heavily pressed on very thick vinyl. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence reitterated by superb sound. Visually a super record that should please many collectors again.

I do NOT play snippetts or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Bat-Sound Quality and Bat-Audio Grading: MEANWHILE!!!!!!! This vintage nostalgic record plays even above its visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will match or outperform this ultimate 1G/1G first pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, as a kid, I was a Batman fanatic and could hardly wait for the next episode – this bought those memories flooding back. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended – SOCK, POW, BIFF, AARRRRGGGGGG, THUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
