According to the person from whom we acquired this item (a good friend of ours and a very fine gentleman), this album comes from the estate of the legendary Rock critic, journalist, liner notes writer and freelancing talent scout Al Aronowitz (1928-2005) best known for introducing  Bob Dylan to The Beatles in 1964. Aronowitz was the original manager of  The Velvet Underground, getting the band their first gig in the auditorium of the high school in Summit, New Jersey (The Velvet Underground stole Aronowitz's tape recorder and dumped him weeks later when they met Andy Warhol) . In a historically infamous episode known as "I want to hold your bong", Aronowitz introduced Bob Dylan to the Beatles in a New York City hotel room on August 28, 1964. According to his own journal entries, at this meeting he brought a marijuana joint which would be the first pot smoked by the Beatles. So...if you are wondering who was responsible for "tripping" the Beatles into recording all those mind-blowing, consciousness-expanding psychedelic masterpieces such as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts' Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album or Abbey Road, seek no further. It was the Man who owned this fine piece.

This is not only not advertised to be, is or even remotely sounds like a live set but it is clearly detailed as to where and when this was recorded. June 9-16, 1971 at Olympic and Command Studios in London! This is indeed a great London set with a plethora of some of the best British musicians of the time but what strikes me the most is the quality of the material throughout. We also get to hear BB King on a rare acoustic guitar on the beautiful "Alexis' boogie" featuring Mr. Korner on 2nd acoustic guitar. All tracks are really well played and Gary Wright's piano riff on "Wet Hayshark" is infectious! Jim Price played and arranged the horn section wonderfully but really, it's hard to find a subpar track or anything even remotely poorly executed as all 9 tracks are top notch fusion between US Legend and awe inspired younger British bluesmen. A must have!

In 1971 King went to London, but not to have a 5 o’ clock tea with the Queen (she has no time for dark-complexioned people,  unless they are royalty, presidents or lawyers for Prince Andrew...). Instead, as was fashionable four decades ago, BB King went on a pilgrimage to the heart of the White Blues Revival, London, where he recorded one of his most memorable albums with the proverbial ROYALTY of Rock and Blues. Look, how many people can boast playing with these musicians (all of whom appear on THIS album): Ringo Starr - Peter Green - Alexis Corner - Jim Price - Bobby Keyes - Gary Wright - Klaus Voorman - Duster Bennett - Steve Marriot - Greg Ridley - Jerry Shirley - Pete Wingfield - Paul Butler - John Best - Jim Gordon - Bill Perkins - Ollie Mitchell - Chuck Findley - Jim Keltner - Mack Rebennack (a/k/a Dr.John)- John Uribe - Bary Ford - Rick Wright - David Spinozza - Dr. (Jerry) Ragovoy. I mean, half of the rock world is here. At a time, the album (just like those recorded by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Bo Didley in London with white blues musicians) was panned by the all-knowing and all-wise critics, but time has been much kinder to it, and the album aged remarkably well. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
