WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT IS AN EXTREMELY RARE, ONE-OF-A-KIND ITEM: AN ORIGINAL BBC TRANSCRIPTION DISC FROM 1965 FOR THE "TOP OF THE POPS" RADIO SHOW.

During the 1960s, there was a radio show called Top Of The Pops (not to be confused with the television programme of the same name) hosted by Brian Matthew. Issued on LP, the BBC broadcast featured Matthew presenting live-in-the-studio session tracks that had been recorded by groups such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and hundreds of others.

Due to the very limited number of discs that were pressed for each show - remember, this was before the day of syndicated radio shows - original copies of this historic show rarely surface for sale. Well, after sitting in the collection of a friend of a BBC employee for almost 40 years, we are proud to offer this incredible piece of history.

In response to several inquiries: The discs we are auctioning predate the more familiar transcription discs from the 1970s and 1980s and, unlike those later, more common discs, our BBC transcription discs DO NOT have any information printed on them.

LP comes in an Emitex inner sleeve. Condition of the vinyl is EX: It shows very little wear despite its age of 40+ years and plays with only occasional pops or clicks.

ALL OF THE PERFORMANCES AND INTERVIEWS ARE UNIQUE TO THESE DISCS AND ARE PERFORMED "LIVE" IN THE STUDIO WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF OVERDUBS! YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THESE PERFORMANCES ANYWHERE ELSE!

PLEASE NOTE: We have set our shipping prices to cover costs on an average basis. We ship all LP's in new (unused) custom LP mailers. We pack records with filler pads, placing the disc in an inner sleeve outside the cover to prevent seam splitting in transit. Part of our postage fee covers the cost of the mailer and pads (which currently costs us up to a dollar per).

RECORD GRADING POLICY

MINT = like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale

EXCELLENT = Would be Near Mint, except for a couple of light hairlines or scuffs, which do not affect play

VG++ = still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light, surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially effect play

VG+ = a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few pops, but has no serious problems.

VG = a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc.

VG- = a very well-worn record that plays through without skipping, but will do until a better copy comes along.

Good = not actually good at all but probably will play through but with much in the way of surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like

Fair = you’re getting this record just to own but not to play

Poor = the sky’s the limit, generally I will discard a record this bad (and sell the cover, jacket or sleeve alone) unless the label holds some particular interest
