BE BOP DELUXE 7" SINGLE TEENAGE ARCHANGEL/JETS AT DAWN SIGNED BY BILL NELSON & BAND I went to see Be Bop Deluxe more than fifty times in the 1970s as I was completely blown away by Bill Nelson. I bought this record at one of their early performances when the line up was Bill Nelson, Rob Bryan, Ian Parkin and Nick Dew. The first time I saw them was at my local pub, The Duke of Cumberland in North Ferriby, west of Hull which was one of their very first appearances as Be Bop Deluxe and the Duke is mentioned on the title track to Axe Victim. This single has not been played that much as soon thereafter I bought the album.
It is from an original limited pressing of only 1,000 copies. This single was subsequently re-issued but this original has certain unique features. This original has a smooth label with a single circular groove forming the pushout centre. Later pressings have two or more raised ridges in the label.
The matrix/runout is stamped on both sides LAFS but the F is scratched out with an S hand-etched above it. Similarly the ?X after A-1 and B-1 is hand-etched.
Finally I believe that the original limited edition was pressed on vinyl which, if held up to the light, would show as a very dark red vinyl and not solid black like the reprints. Please see photograph for proof of colour.
I have played both sides of this single today and it sounds good. I would suggest that this item in good condition with original signed dustcover is quite rare today. I have always looked after my vinyl and this single has stayed in it's dust cover until played.
