Description

This is the Beach Boys' very first single released on the small L.A.-based Candix label (which began operations in 1960 and went bankrupt two years later).  Four label variations of the single (all with "Luau" on the flip side) were pressed over a 3-month period: [1] Candix 331 in November 1961; [2] X 301 in December; [3] Candix 301 in January 1962; and [4] Candix 301 (Dist. by ERA Record Sales), also in January. The copy offered here is Variation #4 (Candix 301, Dist. by ERA Record Sales).  This is thought to be the most common of the four, but a detailed study of Candix numbers supports the opinion that it may actually be the second-rarest variant (after X 301).  Reference to this study is available upon request.
This copy is in G+ condition.  There is a small (0.5") square piece of paper glued on the Side-A label; there appears to have been an attempt to remove it.  Otherwise, there are no rips or tears in the labels.  There is moderate spindle wear on both sides; more pronounced on Side-B. The vinyl has lost some of its sheen and shows multiple small scratches.  There is some audible hiss on playback but both sides play through without skips.  For a 50-year-old record, it's in fairly decent condition.  Comes in an open-faced white paper sleeve.
PLEASE NOTE:  While I've tried to be as accurate as possible in describing this item, opinions may vary as to overall condition. Please examine the photos and ask any questions before bidding.
