Description
THE BEACH BOYS "SUNFLOWER" U.S. 1970 LP (Brother Records/Reprise) RS-6382 M-/M. 12 track original edition LP w/gatefold cover. Contains "Add Some Music To Your Day" & "Cool Cool Water".
The Beach Boys had sold over 65 million records during their time at Capitol Record, produced one of Rock's most enduring classics with “Pet Sounds” but also had their share of problems with the non-appearance of the follow-up “Smile” LP & the subsequent mental breakdown of group leader Brian Wilson. So by 1970, at the urging of Van Dyke Parks, the group switched to Reprise & were given their own custom label- Brothers Records. Part of the deal was that Brian would be involved in all the records released under the name of the Beach Boys which had not always been the case on some of their later Capitol albums “Sunflower” was the first product under their new deal. Brian either wrote or co-wrote 7 of the albums 12 songs including the “Smile” era “Cool Cool Water” & the single “Add Some Music To Your Day” which went to #64 in March, 1970. But the album was very much a collaborative effort with everyone (Brian, Carl & Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine & Bruce Johnston) contributing to the songwriting & gorgeous harmonies. “Sunflower” is a case where the album didn't do well at the time of release- it stalled at #151 on the Billboard charts after only a 4 week run but in the years since it has been hailed as a minor classic & the group's best & most cohesive album other than “Pet Sounds”.
Side 2 1. Tears In The Morning 2. All I Wanna Do 3. Forever 4. Our Sweet Love 5. At My Window 6. Cool Cool Water
Gatefold cover is crisp & intact & looks great w/no tears or writing. Looks nearly new w/only minor aging & edge wear it to deter from a MINT grading. The stereo record has 2-tone yellow Brother Records/Reprise labels w/no visible spindle marks. It has no scratches or scuffs & has received very few plays. It is in MINT condition.
