ONE OF THE RAREST BEACH BOYS-RELATED RELEASES !!
This is Bruce Johnston's DEBUT 45rpm release (ie the first to officially bear his name) and was released in 1959 - two years before his fellow future-Beach Boys appeared on vinyl. Along with fellow musician Jerry Cooper, Bruce released "TAKE THIS PEARL" b/w "I SAW HER FIRST" on the Arwin label (45-1003) and BOTH tracks bear the name B.Johnston on the writing credits. However, taking this item one step further - this a pre-release PROMOTIONAL COPY issued by the label - therefore MUST be one of the first few copies ever pressed !
The tracks sound like the early garage doo-wop of Jan & Dean (their high school friends) and was probably issued as a direct result of Jan's initial success with Arnie Ginsberg.
The quality is pretty damn fine after over 45 years, tho' there are a few crackles noticeable. Unfortunately someone over that course of time has also seen fit to write on the label. Nevertheless, a slice of musical history !
