Bead Game  " Welcome "

Rare psychedelic set album

"This band formed in Boston, Massachusetts. Like "Steppenwolf" they found their name from a Hermann Hesse novel. They all lived in a communal house, but never really practiced. It didn't matter, because the gigs they played were solid and the fans showed up in droves. Jim Hodder (drummer) had a distinctive voice that many will recognize later as an early member of "Steely Dan". They put together some demo recordings for a planned album with the Vanguard label, but the album didn't see the light and didn't get released. Then Gary Katz found them. He was a junior A&R man with the AVCO Embassy label and they recorded other songs they had under their belt for this album. The record is pretty psychedelic and jazzy with some phasing, echoes, psych guitar and special effects. You can certainly hear influences of the Bead Game in "Steely Dan". They then did the soundtrack for a movie called "The People Next Door". Meanwhile Gary Katz was working with Don Fagen and Walt Becker and asked Jim Hodder to come and board for that project."
