Description

The Beat Of The Earth: same 1967, USA/Radish AS-0001. Disc has a couple of long scuffs running across side two that do not sound, on the plus side this example does not have any little bubbles that plagued the entire pressing run, it gets an EX visual grade and plays perfectly. Cover is M- in shrink wrap. The Beat Of The Earth was not a rock band proper, but a musical collective of local hippies and ex-Beatniks. This first LP is a collection of improvisations recorded in the studio and it's like a document of the unpredictable sound collage that one might have experienced at one of the early acid happenings. It really works, you can practically see the liquid light show on the walls as it plays. Viewed with that mindset, it's a perfect album. It sounds just like it's supposed to, and the cover absolutely reeks of southern California hippie vibes. Two sidelong flipouts with Lou Reed-like vocals and totally druggy, primitive instrumentation; this LP has mesmerized more than a few psych collectors over the years. A real unique item from California's vast 1960s music canon. The band is well-represented on YouTube, here's a link to a clip from this album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MdjKn3A2N4
