This auction is a very rare original pressing of the Beatles LP 'Rubber Soul' on the original yellow / black Parlophone label.
This is a pretty interesting pressing as it features a number of rarities! The most important one to point out first is that this particular pressing has the very rare 'Ridged label' on side one. These 'ridged' labels are not a contract pressing (as they are sometimes listed as) but rather EMI bringing older pressing machines out of retirement to help cope with overwhelming demand.
This copy also features the originial Loud Cut matrix numbers 579-1 / 580-1. These were only available for a very short while before being replaced with the much more common 579-4 / 580-4. It's said that these original presses were more unbalanced with a muddier bass and harsher vocal sound, and so were very quickly recalled to be re-cut with a more ear-friendly mix. Today these original Loud Cut presses are becoming incresingly difficult to find.
Not only that, but this copy features the MT tax code embossed on the side 2 label. This was an error as the MT tax code became invalid in mid '63 and replaced with KT, and so was 2 years out of date by the time this LP was released.
If that wasn't enough, this copy also features mismatched typesets on the labels in that side 1 features the Sans Serif typeset and side 2 features Times New Roman. A rare little inconstancy that cropped up with an imbalanced number of label styles loaded into the machines during production.
So, all in all, a very rare LP! It's hard to find a copy of this LP with just one of these little errors, but to find a copy with all four is something else!!
...
The cover is looking really nice with just some light, standard wear and tear. The front cover is really clean with a beautiful rich colour to it and a thick, unrubbed, shiny laminate which has just a few small creases around the edges. The top and bottom seams are holding fine and the spine is perfect with no splits, tears, crushing or anything and with all the text fully legible. The back cover has yellowed slightly and has a few light stains on the left side. The name 'Davidson' has been written twice in small, black pen. The overflaps are stuck nice and tight with just a few light, little creases running through the laminate. All in all, the sleeve is looking very respectible! Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : VG
The playing surface has a nice shine to it but has a fair amount of light wsear and faint scuffing along with a few slightly heavier looking marks, but there's nothing at all serious or nasty and, overall, is not looking too bad!.
.
The labels are both clean and clear of any writing, stickers etc. There is some light wear as you can see in the photos above and has some light spindlwear with some whitening around the centrehole. Decent labels!
