Description

Massively Rare Original 1967 U.K. Mono Widespine 1st Pressing 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' by The Beatles!!! - This is the Mega Rare Thick & Chunky UK Parlophone Black/Yellow Label 1st Pressing!!! Complete With Massively Rare Original Garrod & Lofthouse Mono 'Widespine' Sleeve!!! Complete with Mint- 1st press Red/White 'Psych' Inner!!! In Sensational Condition Throughout!!! The ONLY way to own this Seminal Psychedelic Record!!!!

You are bidding on what is probably the most famous psychedelic LP of all time: The Beatles 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'  This however, is the earliest 1967 UK Mono 1st pressing- furthermore it is beautiful condition - please read on. There are a number of features that make this record very, very rare!!! Firstly, it is the earliest 1967 UK "Wide Spine" Mono 1st pressing!!! Only the earliest UK 1st pressings of Sgt. Pepper's were issued with this rare 'wide spine' sleeve. It was very quickly replaced with standard issue regular spine sleeves, so it is incredibly hard to find!!! Secondly this UK 1st pressing is COMPLETE with mega rare Mint Cut-out page and Mint- 'Psych' inner. These 'Psych; inner sleeve's are again, incredibly hard to find, and when they do turn up, they almost always have splits to the bottom seam, and usually the side seams (they also more often than not have scribbles on them). This 'psych' inner is MINT- however with NO scribbles and NO seam splitting!!! What's more this record is also in SENSATIONAL CONDITION!!! One of the main problems I have found with copies of this record over the years is that they almost ALWAYS turns up with terrible groovewear and scratches. What I mean by 'groovewear' is that copies of this record almost always have a dull lifeless shine to them; they look very, very worn. This one however, is totally different!!! It still has a beautiful shine, with virtually NONE of the dullness!!! On first glance, the look of its virtually blemish-free playing surfaces (just one or two virtually invisible hairlines) tells you that this is something special indeed. The contrast of the loud raw mono mix coupled with virtual silence between tracks (barely any crackling at all) is truly breathtaking and SO rare for a mono 1st press Sgt Pepper. This is how they sounded back in the 1960's from new!!! Anyone who says excessive crackle is unavoidable in old Beatles 1st press records is wrong, it is not, and this record is proof. Crackle is caused by the crude blunt needles of the 1960's. Once records had been played with these needles they were left with severe crackle and groovewear (dull sheen), damage which is irreversible. However, some escaped being played by these needles, these are the ones that sound as crisp and clear today as they did when first pressed. It has only ever been played once or twice before!!! It has obviously never seen one of the horrible blunt mono needles of the 1960's that used to tear through the grooves on the old 60's LP's destroying the imprint and forever leaving horrible crackle and visible dull groove-wear.

The Sgt. Pepper UK 1st press is, in my opinion, the hardest Beatles album to find in anything approaching Excellent condition. Due to the commercial appeal of this record, virtually all 1st press copies you will find have have been played to death, with severe dulling of the playing surfaces, surface marks and lots of crackle, pops and skips. The 'psych' inner is either missing, or very tatty with seam splits. And they are impossible to find with their earliest 1st issue 'widespine' sleeves!!! So to find a true chunky 1//1 Matrix widespine 1st is hard enough, believe me. But to find one in STUNNING audio and visual condition throughout like this is impossible. This is an absolutely essential record for any high-grade Beatles/Beat/Psych collection and definitely worth pushing the boat out for.  I will describe the record as best as I can. Don't hesitate to email with any questions you may have.

Garrod & Lofthouse 'Widespine' Sleeve

The classic 1st press Yellow/Black Parlophone centre labels  are in stunning Nr Mint condition!!! They have NO Tears, NO Peeling, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! Most importantly however, there is only the faintest trace of 1 solitary spindle line on BOTH sides!!! This record has clearly only been played a few times ever!!! The gramophone rims containing the all important matrix's are also mint!!!

The first thing you notice about this 1967 UK 1st pressing is its incredible thickness and weight - it is very, very heavy!!! Again, I cannot emphasise how very difficult it is to find Mono 1st press copies of this LP that have not been played to death, on the rare occasions that the do turn up they are full of nasty scratches and gouges. This one is NOT!!! It looks absolutely stunning with a deep shine and just has one or two of the faintest non-feelable hairlines. These are virtually invisible and in NO way detract from the fact that this this record has only seen very few plays on a turntable!!! The quality thick & chunky 1st press vinyl looks and sounds absolutely stunning!!! And remember - this is the earliest 1st Mono press, straight from the master sounding raw, louder, more defined and more punchy than all the weaker later re-pressings.  This plays beautifully. Having a clear, clean Mono sound is so important on this record more than so many others; from the chiming clarity of George's guitar intro to 'Getting Better' right through to the acoustic intro leading through John's awesome vocals on 'A Day in The Life'; this is a beautiful record to listen to. In fact, listening to it during the play-grade session just reminded me of why I fell in love with this record in the first place and what subtle ('Getting Better') and obvious ('A Day in The Life') genius was at work here. Were The Beatles the greatest band we have ever seen? You bet. Anyways, I picked up just the occasional pop (twice at the beginning of side 1), otherwise it is clear, clean listening throughout. This is one of the very best examples I have ever heard of this LP. A breathtaking listening experience. It has NONE of the constant 'hiss', so common with this record!!! You will not find a more pristine UK 1st pressing of this record!!! It will grace any high grade 1960's Beatles/Beat/Pop collection and I have graded it as Excellent to account for the occasional tiny 'non feelable' hairline as mentioned above, otherwise it would easily grade Ex++ / Nr Mint!!!  Absolutely beautiful!!!

The original 1st press Garrod & Lofthouse 'Earliest Widespine' laminated gatefold sleeve is also in superb condition!!! These sleeves just NEVER turn up with the earliest 'Widespine' in this condition!!! Even the later and much more common 'narrow spine' sleeves ALWAYS turn up grubby and worn-out looking today. But to find a true 1st press 'Widespine' mono sleeve -in this kind of condition is impossible!!! The laminate is in beautiful crisp, clear condition, bringing out all the bold vibrant colours of this legendary sleeve!!! It has NONE of the laminate 'dulling' common with this sleeve!!! The sleeve still retains ALL of its original stiffness and BOX SHAPE!!! It has NO unwanted writing or scribbles (again, very common with other sleeves) The sleeve lies perfectly FLAT with NO RING WEAR!!! These 1st press sleeves always turn up totally worn out-looking nowadays with severe damage to the spine, with corner & edge wear, stains and ring wear (especially to the back). This has NONE of these faults and easily grades as Ex!!! As I mentioned previously, please rest assured that this is in no way over-graded, what you are getting here is the real deal. I adhere strictly to record collector grading standards!!! IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THIS ORIGINAL 1ST PRESS GARROD & LOFTHOUSE 'WIDESPINE' 1st PRESS GATEFOLD IN THIS CONDITION ANYMORE!!!

Importantly, it comes complete with its correct Red/White' wavy inner sleeve!!! Known simply as the 'Psych' or 'Fool' inner, these are very hard to find today. Most original pressings have lost this rare inner over the years, not least because they are very fragile and split very easily at the seams - this psych inner is as perfect as you will ever see!! It has NO seam splits and NO writing/scribbles, NO grubbiness and NO discoloration!!! It is Ex+++ and one of the best examples you will see!!!! The record will come to you in a replacement inner sleeve, with the psych inner safely tucked away inside the outer jacket!!!

Don't miss this one as 1st press 'widespine' copies like this only come around very rarely!!! Check out my feedback and bid with confidence as this is a no reserve auction with a very low starting price!  This is the ultimate UK 1st press of this psych monster, straight from the master!!! A very rare record, don't miss  - Good Luck!

Please check out our feedback and bid with confidence as this is a no reserve auction with a very low starting price!!! Forget the later inferior re-pressings, this is the only way you should listen to this record!!! This record is massively rare to find on the original UK 1st press Blue/Black Mono Columbia label anymore.  if you have never heard this record, it will blow you away!!! An absolutely essential (and very rare) psychedelic record to own!!!

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...

Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.

We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
