Description

Ultra-rare and close to unique one sided Parlophone test pressing of A Hard Day’s Night.

It has a solid centre and must be the earliest pressing of this classic 45.

The label states: ‘Parlophone Microgroove Test Record, Not For Sale.’ And ‘This record must not be placed on sale until sanctioned.’

The record has impeccable provenance as it was originally owned by Barry Waite who in 1964 was Assistant Manager at EMI Recording Studios.  He was an engineer at Abbey Road and worked there for many years.  I believe it is his handwriting on the label.

The side with handwriting has a reference tone (840hz) running for a minute or so and has the letters LPFB stamped on the run-out groove.

The other side has the music and the matrix number: 7XCE 17714-IN handwritten on the label and a purple stamp that I think says ‘Weekly Issue’ stamped on the label.  It also has the matrix number and KT1 stamped on the run-out groove.

I would grade the vinyl at somewhere between VG+ and EX.  There are some marks and scuffs but it plays absolutely perfectly.  Please click on this link which is a faithful recording of the disc…… https://www.seewhyaudio.com/ebay/mp3/7XCE-17714-1N.mp3

MINT(M): The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT(EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD(VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Plus(+) or Minus(-) may be used from time to time to try to give the buyer a closer idea of the quality of record on offer.
