Description
The original FIRST UK RELEASE, Nov. 1969, of The Beatles "Abbey Road" album on lime green paper label cassette, with its original inlay and case and in very good clean condtion. Plays perfectly. "Abbey Road" has the distinction of being the first Beatles album to be released at the same time as the vinyl album, as this was the time that the first cassettes were being marketed.
There were many REissues of The Beatles albums during the lifetime of the cassette's popularity 1970 through to the 1990s. This item was the original first release, BEFORE EMI opened its new tape duplicating facilities at Hayes, Middlesex in July 1970. Between 1966 and June 1970, EMI's early musicassettes were manufactured by the Dutch firm, Phillips themselves - the inventor and originator of the cassette. This item is one of them ! There is no date code on the inlay which dates this cassette manufacture as before July 1970, when EMI brought in the system. (Please ignore the date in the title - I am unable to change it)
The first UK issue of "Abbey Road" is identified by its "white" inlay, its lime green paper label, no Apple or Parlophone logo, (dispute between Apple and EMI), the circular 1 7/8ths ips (inches per second tape speed) and a colour reproduction of the back cover of the vinyl jacket on the foldover. The track listings were printed on the reverse of the inlay.
The cassette cases ("Norelco" cases) were clear plastic at the front and around the spine area, and black plastic at the rear.
With the introduction of Beatles CDs in 1987, and subsequently music in download form, Beatles cassettes are now history and collectible.
Here is the original first UK, Nov.1969 cassette release of the Beatles "Abbey Road" album in very good condition.

NOTE: These first issue Beatles cassettes have a high scarcity value in the region of 7 - 9 (10 indicating that fewer than 20 copies are known to exist)
Since early cassette tapes were sold in much lower quantities than were vinyl albums, and since cassettes were typically not available at the same time as the LP (originally) they tend to be very much rarer than their LP counterparts.
