Beatles 3rd State Mono (Peeled) Butcher Cover

You are bidding on an outstanding genuine 1966 3rd State Scranton Mono (peeled) Scarce Cut Out example of arguably the most desired collectible rock record in existence.  Top quality 3rd state covers often fetch up to $2000 or more. See specific condition details below..

This package includes a top quality example of an authentic 1966 Scranton Mono Butcher Cover with its removed Trunk Slick, Mono record, inner sleeve, COA and free packet of  Butcher related info. This is an awesome offering due to the quality of the peel, the overall condition of the jacket and quality of the complete package as a whole.

The quality of this peel and general nice condition of this jacket places this particular jacket into the top 2% of all mono high end peels.  This is a gorgeous peel.

Much time and labor is spent in the process of bringing these very valuable and historic jackets back to life ! We are one of the only sellers on Ebay that can say that they have successfully peeled hundreds of Butcher Covers for a wide variety of customers over several decades and can also properly specify a covers chain of custody regarding peeling as we ARE NOT secondary market sellers of peeled jackets and all peeling is done in house. We strive to be 100% accurate when listing items and always show and describe specific condition details of these jackets.

Please check out some of our recent feedback for customer satisfaction regarding Butcher Covers:

Specific Condition Details

Interestingly, this album has a cut out hole to the left of the Capitol logo which may indicate that this was either a promotional designation or more likely a cut out hole that was a marking from the distributor made on the album so that it could not be returned to the distributor for a full price credit as unsold stock. Either way, this is a very rare and interesting anomaly.  Record companies had a window of return on normal stock that didn't sell after several months. With Beatles records, this was unusual as most of their catalog was repressed multiple times (Sales have exceeded Double Platinum or 2 million units) and this title was no different. Nobody, outside of a record company or distributor would mark an album in this way unless it was for either promotional purposes or to prevent a full price refund. We've seen only a small handful of these over the years and  have never had any 2nd state (unpeeled) covers that had the word "Free" or "Promo" spelled out in punch holes. Capitol Records traditionally used those words spelled out as markings on most original 60's Beatles pressings to signify a promotional copy.  There is not a lot written about promotional copies of Yesterday and Today but we can tell you from personal experience with hundreds of copies over four decades, that this is unusual.

Overall, this is a better than average jacket condition wise. Better than we usually see for a nearly 60 year old jacket ! Top and bottom borders are more white than average with little tanning. Likewise, the top and bottom seams are complete and strong with a bit of cracking of the paper on the left hand side of the top border and a light abrasion from the peeling process.. Spine is complete with all writing legible but there is some slight cracking of the paper here and there but nothing too serious. The back of the jacket is also clean and mostly white with no staining/writing and only very light evidence ringwear. Please see photos for confirmation of all of these specific condition descriptions.

Although this jacket will comfortably hold a record and inner sleeve , we strictly advise against placing and storing the record in a jacket of this age.

Comes with an original goldenrod colored 1966 inner sleeve. Inner sleeve has a corresponding punch hole/cut out mark. A nice clean Scranton Mono record in EX condition (visual grade) is included. The trunk slick is included as shown in framable condition with light wrinkling/wear/tear from the peeling process. That being said, this removed trunk slick is also better than average for a peel.

Also included in this sale is a Certificate Of Authenticity which certifies not only the authenticity and chain of custody of the item, but a certification of the peeling process. Buyer will also receive a package of  fun information about the Butcher Cover.

It should be emphasized that Butcher Covers of this quality and grade are highly desired by collectors and are genuinely scarce in this condition.

Payment is due within 24 hours of auction close.

This item is an original and genuine 1966 3rd State (Peeled) used example of the legendary Butcher Cover. This item is guaranteed to be an authentic 1966 jacket and pressing. Purchaser understands that this is a used item and therefore we request that that all photos be clearly examined prior to bidding. Given the fact that this item has been professionally peeled and altered from a 2nd state (unpeeled) condition to a 3rd state (peeled) example, this item has condition elements that reflect the process of treatment and restoration of the item when it was glued at the Capitol factory in 1966 as well as conditional elements from the actual peeling process. These elements generally involve mild glue lines that were made at the pressing plant when the trunk cover was pasted over but also may include some minor restorative issues from the removal process. This is not a new item but a used one that has been restored through a tedious and careful process.

We have been restoring and selling genuine Beatles Butcher Covers for over three decades and our customers range from well known celebrities and galleries to the everyday collector.  We have contributed to television shows, collectible books and have displays in  many of the best record guide books including "The Price Guide For The Beatles American Records" By Perry Cox and Frank Daniels and "Rockin' Records".  We are one of the only sellers on Ebay that can say that they are the direct source of our genuine Butcher Covers. In other words, we don't send our Butcher Covers out to others who provide peeling services but own and supervise all work that is performed on the Butcher Covers that we sell.
