YOU CAN STILL SEE THE PLASTIC IN THE SPINDLE HOLE!
Another from my personal collection original 1st UK pressing 1970 (39 years old!!) The 1st solo album by John Lennon since his departure from the Beatles! This is in outstanding condition and looks and sounds like it has barely ever been played very very rare to find like this! Also this is complete with the original lyric record sleeve which is only seen on the earliest UK pressings. I have carefully played the vinyl prior to listing and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality as I hear it. I have many original copies of this album and it is rare to find these copies that are not played to death, in fact it is rare to find any vinyl that is 39n years old like this let alone a Lennon album! The audio in my opinion is quite exceptional clear and vibrant with just the bare minimal static ticks\crackle heard during some quiet parts only (no) loud clicks or pops and (no) jumps or skips! A real collectable and highly sought after being a really early 1st press!
John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band is the début solo album by English rock musician John Lennon. It was released in 1970 after Lennon issued three experimental albums with Yoko Ono and Live Peace In Toronto 1969, a live performance in Toronto credited to The Plastic Ono Band. The album was recorded simultaneously with Yoko Ono's debut avant garde solo album Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band at Ascot Sound Studios and Abbey Road Studios using the same musicians and production team, and featured nearly identical cover artwork. John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band is generally considered one of Lennon's finest solo albums and a landmark recording!!!.
The "Plastic Ono Band" in the album's title refers to the conceptual band Lennon and Ono had formed in 1969 of various supporting musicians they would use on their various solo albums!!.
After The Beatles' break-up in April 1970, both Lennon and Ono undertook Primal therapy with the guidance of Arthur Janov for four months in Los Angeles. Forced to confront the traumas of his childhood (abandonment, isolation and death), Lennon finally let his submerged anger and hurt rise to the surface and dealt with it through his art. Similarly, Ono's concurrently-recorded album, Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band was a form of catharsis for her!!!.
Returning to England that September, Lennon and Ono called upon Phil Spector, who had produced Lennon's hit "Instant Karma!" earlier that year, to co-produce both their albums with them at Abbey Road Studios. Ringo Starr played drums, while Klaus Voormann, an old pal of The Beatles from Germany – and a former member of Manfred Mann – played bass. Billy Preston, who had already worked with The Beatles, supplied piano for "God." Lennon himself performed all guitar duties, playing most of the piano as well. The music itself was kept very basic and direct in arrangement!!.
Throughout the album, Lennon touches upon many issues: the abandonment of his parents in "Mother"; the castigation of class issues in "Working Class Hero" (one of the first pop songs to feature the word "*****"); a reminder that despite his rage and pain, Lennon still embraces "Love"; and "God", a renouncement of external saviours, including, famously, the Beatles. Here Lennon states that he believes only in himself, and his wife Yoko!!
The album's cover is almost identical to Ono's companion piece Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band—the difference being that on Ono's cover, she is lying on Lennon's body. The photo was snapped with a consumer-grade Instamatic camera by actor Daniel Richter who worked as an assistant for the Lennons at the time!!!

The Vinyl.
On initial inspection this looks like new! Super glossy apearance retained from new! And barely a blemish can be seen. It is instantly quite obvious that this vinyl has barely ever been played (looks like it has barely had a handful of plays ever! Only when scrutinised in strong light can any possibly whispy sleeve removal marks\scuffs possibly be seen! I can just barely see one very minute feint 3mm needle scratch on side two track 'Love' which has no real adverse effect on the awesome audio apart from the odd light static tick\crackle at the very quiet intro to this track that's all.I must emphisise that the audio is cristal clear and vibrant throughout!
The Audio
I have played this vinyl through track for track on a top system at very loud volume prior to listing. The audio is awesome throughout, cristal clear and vibrant! There is (no) signs of grooveware or that this has been overplayed what so ever, absolutely superbe! Top Top on all frequencies! Absolutely (no) loud clicks or pops quite amaizing for an original 39 year old vinyl! Any static crackle\ticks evident is very minimal even during the many quiet tracks and in between ! Please note! I have many original copies of this album and it is very rare to find like this! A very playable and enjoyable album all of the way through! Certainly (no) skips or jumps! Importantly (no) loud clicks or pops! Superbe seperation throughout! Top audio I would grade the audio playback as at least excellent\excellent plus!
Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd light static tick\crackle perhapes only in quiet places but (not consistant throughout the audio) Please remember that this is an original 29 year old vinyl that would have orifginaly been played on a 29 year old system!
Another important note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 25 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves over the years , causes static crackle \ticks!,,, A constant clean before each play is recomended. This will reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!
The labels
These feature the custom apple labels plain black and white. In truly superbe condition Amaizingly barely a handful it that of spider marks can be seen angled to the light! (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round Please note! It is obvious that this vinyl has barely ever been played, perhapes a handful of times because you can still see the plastic in the spindle hole!! Truly unbeleivable for a 39 year old vinyl! Highly collectable like this! !
The record sleeve
This is the original Lyric record sleeve (only found on the earliest initial 1st UK pressings) later press do not have this and are just plain white! This is in superbe condition and becoming fragile with just light creasing and a feint sighn of a split beginning at the bottom edge aprox one inch only. Please note the vinyl is now stored seperately from the sleeve for protection!
The Cover
This is the original 1st press fully laminated both front and rear cover! Super glossy apearance with nice sharp corners strong and straight. (no) splits or tares or nasty handwritten names. Importantly no nasty marks! There are just minimal creasings (front end at the spine mainly) This must be at least excellent\excellent plus!
