Another from my personal collection of Beatles records that I have accumilated over a period of more than 45 years! I have dedicated myself to collecting UK Beatles only.  I rarely purchased foreign pressings I am not sure how many Beatles singles that I have but it must be in the hundreds, I certainly own over 1000 UK Beatles albums! Here is the original Beatles debut single, released in 1962. I thought that it would be apt to list this record to mark 50 years since this record was first released! This particular Beatles record is a peace of important world history, being their debut single and the start of the Beatlemania that proceded. In fact this single is even noted on the Britains timeline, out of all of Britains history the great battles, wars and kings and queens that are noted down in the timeline over the years, 1962 is noted The Beatles release 'Love Me Do' That is how important and collectable these originals are to have and own! This record on offer is totaly original and complete with the 1st issue Parlophone company sleeve, (note the Parlophone logo on both sides, only found on the 1st issues) Look how early this copy is with 1 to 1 mother stampers! There are certain very important charactoristics that determine genuine 1st UK pressings of this particular record which I will explain further in my description. The record has just very light ware and tare with age, but the important factor to me is that the audio is awesome throughout and plays through cristal clear and very vibrant,, without distortion or signs of any grooveware and without any loud nasty clicks or pops! A very respectable and playable copy. A must have for any avid Beatles collector. The first\debut Beatles record that is amaizingly 50 years old! Becoming almost imossible to find like this! I have decided to digitally record the record so that you can listen to both sides and evaluate the quality for yourselves. Please note that I have also play tested this record using a dedicated mono cartridge which in my opinion is the only way to listen to these originals, and this sounded as good as new in my opinion, absolutely stunning clarity through out

EMI's planned release of a 50th anniversary limited-edition replica  of the original single was cancelled when it was discovered that the  pressings contained the Andy White version instead of the Ringo version  as intended. Many of these unintended issues are seen for sale.

Revised release plans have been announced for a limited-edition  replica vinyl version of The Beatles‘ first single, “Love Me Do” backed  with “P.S. I Love You,” in honor of the 50th anniversary of its release  in the U.K. The 7-inch disc originally was scheduled to hit stores on  October 5, the single’s actual golden anniversary, but it now will be  available starting on October 22. Remember, this record on offer is totaly original not a reissue!

"Love Me Do" begins with bluesy harmonica played by John Lennon, then features Lennon and McCartney on joint lead vocals although McCartney handles the low solo vocal line on the song's title phrase when all the instruments go silent. Lennon had previously sung these sections, but this change in vocals was made when the harmonica part was added, as Lennon needed to play it once the instrumentation started up again on the "do" of "love me do"

"Love Me Do" was recorded by the Beatles on different occasions with three different drummers:

• The Beatles first recorded it on 6 June 1962 with Pete Best on drums, as part of their EMI audition at Abbey Road Studios in London.
• By 4 September, Best had been replaced with Ringo Starr (producer George Martin did not approve of Best's drumming), and on that day the Beatles with Starr recorded a version again at Abbey Road Studios.
• One week later, on 11 September, the Beatles returned to the same studio to discover that Martin was dissatisfied with Starr's drumming, and they made a recording of "Love Me Do" with session drummer Andy White on drums while Starr played tambourine.




 

Most issues of the single contain the Andy White version of the track, which can also be heard on several albums (including Please Please Me) and the The Beatles' Hits EP. The initial issues of the UK single, however, featured the Ringo Starr version, which is also included on the compilation album Past Masters, Volume One. All singles printed with the red Parlophone label contain the Ringo Starr version, whereas the singles having a black Parlophone label are the Andy White version. The CD single issued on 5 October 1992 contains both these versions. The Pete Best version remained unreleased until 1995, when it was included on the Anthology 1 album.

"Love Me Do", featuring Starr drumming, was also recorded eight times at the BBC and played on the BBC radio programmes Here We Go, Talent Spot, Saturday Club, Side By Side, Pop Go The Beatles and Easy Beat between October 1962 and October 1963. The version of "Love Me Do" recorded on 10 July 1963 at the BBC and broadcast on the 23 July 1963 Pop Go The Beatles programme can be heard on the Beatles album Live at the BBC. The Beatles also performed the song live on the 20 February 1963 Parade of the Pops BBC radio broadcast.

In 1969, during the Get Back sessions, the Beatles played the song in a slower, more bluesy form than they had in earlier recordings. This version of "Love Me Do" is one of many recordings made during these sessions and subsequently appeared on some bootlegs.

The Vinyl (Firstly Visual Inspection)

This vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping! The vinyls playing surface still retains its original sheen from new and looks awesome! Any marks that could possibly be seen on the playing surface would be light wyspy sleeve removal type scuffs only. No nasty needle scratches importantly, there are no marks that would cause any loud clicks or pops! This looks a very tidy and respectable copy and not your usual over played copy in my opinion! I would say that this has had only minimal play only!

The Audio Quality.

I have played this vinyl on both sides prior to this listing four times at very loud volume on a top system, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge. The audio is truly awesome throughout, cristal clear and very vibrant, without distortion or signs of grooveware, very hard to find like this after 49 years beleive me!! Any static is barely heard throughout on my system, very minor indeed. I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very near mint in my opinion! 

To hear for yourself, I have digitally recorded both sides of the actual record (recorded in mono at 44100hz 32 bit float) using a stereo cartridge although this is not ideal comparing digital sound with the fullness and warmth of analogue sound that I hear on my systems it may give you an idea of what to expect from this record. Please note! That digitally this enhances any interfearence that there may be and of course it is a much warmer and complete sound on a normal analogue system, at least this has always been my opinion!

This vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 30 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ticks! A constant clean before each play is recomended,, this will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality!

Please note, I always add this disclaimer, please allow for minor isolated static during the play of this vinyl (not consistant throughout the audio) Please remember that this is a 50 year old record that would have originaly been played on a 50- year old system! 

The Labels

Features the red Parlophone labels (correct for this 1st issue) Features ''Recording 1st published 1962'' (only 1st press) P.T. tax stampers on the label side B. And ZPT stamped on the run off grooves. Amaizingly there is only limited amount of spidering on these labels. It is obvious to me that this has had very minimal play only in my opinion! There is no ware around the spindle hole it is perfectly round!! There is no nasty writing and all text is fully legible! Features with out ''Made In Gt. Britain'' text (only 1st UK Press) ''The Parlophone Co Ltd...'' text around the labels in Upper and Lower case (onloy 1st UK press)

The Cover Sleeve

This is the original type A. cover (correct for this 1st pressing) Please note that there were three types of sleeve issued fore this pressing, and this is the earliest type! (note this has the Parlophone logo on both sides, only found on the 1st issue covers) This is becoming fragile with age only no splits or tares! light general creasing & ware with age only This is now stored seperately from the vinyl!
