IN THE U.S.A THEY DID NOT ISSUE ANY BEATLES DEMOS TILL THIS ONE, THE HUGE AMOUNTS OF PRESSINGS TOOK PRIORITY AND RADIO STATIONS RECIEVED THE NORMAL COPIES BE IT DAYS BEFORE RELEASE SO THIS IS THE VERY IST OFFICAL DEMO "PENNY LANE B/W STRAWBERRYFIELDS FOREVER I, BOUGHT THIS COPY AT A RECORD FAIR MANY YEARS AGO, AND IT CAME FROM A COLLECTION WHICH HAD BEEN BOUGHT IN THE U.S.A. CONDITION IS EXCELLENT I HAVE SEARCHED THE NET FOR MORE INFOMATION WHICH I HAVE ADDED AND THANK THE ORIGINAL RESEARCHER BRUCE SPIZER FOR THE DATA~~The Beauty is that this demo is a different take which was why i wanted this copy a collectors item~~Check out my other items!~~NOTE label is yellow and both sides are clean excellent condition one thing i do remember for sure that pressed into the wax was the # 1 making Penny Lane the A side and #2 on Strawberry fields Forever In the dead wax area (Penny Lane ) appears what looks like a ! then 45-5871 f 1 b/side( Strawberry Fields) 45-45870 g 2 I ~~~~~~~~Once I have sent your item (and have obtained my proof of postage), it is the responsibility of the Royal Mail to get it to you safe and undamaged. QUESTION: "...but why did Capitol not issue promo singles until the release of the Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane single?"
BRUCE SPIZER: "Capitol Records was the first company to prepare promotional singles for disc jockeys. When they began doing this in the forties, other record companies were trying to minimize airplay of their records because they thought airplay would hurt sales! Their thinking was why would someone pay for a record when they could hear it for free on the radio? Capitol correctly thought people would want to buy a record if they kept hearing it on the radio."
"That being the case, it is somewhat ironic that Capitol did not issue promo records for its first 15 Beatles singles. Perhaps it was a case of not having the time to prepare separate promo labels. From 1964 through 1966, it was always a case of rushing the next Beatles single out. Capitol just sent stock copies of the records to disc jockeys. At the time, all promo discs were pressed by Capitol's LA factory. Perhaps Capitol wanted to keep it simple for the plant so that it could press as many copies of Beatles singles as possible, without changing labels to press some promo discs. The key thing to remember is that even though most Capitol Beatles records were not given special promo labels, Capitol still sent out thousands of records to radio stations for promotional purposes."
"It is also ironic that the first time Capitol put out a promo Beatles single, it unknowingly created a near instant collectible. The version of Penny Lane on the promo 45 is different than the stock copy because Capitol received a different mix prior to manufacturing the stock copies of the record."
