Description

This auction is for an LP of THE BEATLES ''PLEASE PLEASE ME'' on the original and rare BLACK AND GOLD PARLOPHONE LABEL – which I believe to be a 1st PRESSING. It is a MONO PMC 1202 UK PRESS with the ORIGINAL COVER

This was the FIRST EVER BEATLES ALBUM, which was released in the UK in 1963.

THE MATRIX: SIDE 1.XEX 421-1N.

                            SIDE 2. XEX 422-1N

Side 1: Stamped 1/M

Side 2: Stamped 1/O

I will define the following as honestly as I can:

THE LABELS:

Are in resonable condition on both sides (see photo’s). The GOLD PRINT is sharp and clear and is easily legible, with a little wear around the spindle hole.

They feature the ORIGINAL GOLD PARLOPHONE LOGO - ONLY FOUND ON 1ST AND SECOND PRESSES. 33 1/3 is featured on both sides.

I believe that the distinction between this 1ST PRESS AND THE 2ND PRESS is the song credits for all the BEATLES SONGS all having ''DICK JAMES MUS.CO'' publishing credit ie ''I SAW HER STANDING THERE'', ''MISERY'' , ''ASK ME WHY'', ''PLEASE PLEASE ME'', ''DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET'', and ''THERE'S A PLACE, as THIS record does.

THE VINYL:

There are some surface marks/scratches and, if you run your finger around the very outside edge, a very slight blemish can be felt, which does not affect the “run on groove”, or the face of the record (see photo).

Having played the record through, the following was found:

There are NO skips, jumps or stops, and no warping.

Side 1: Some background “crackles” but plays fine through to track 6 (Ask Me Why), which has some “clicks” towards the very end. The final track again is OK.

Side 2: More “crackly” than side 1, but this is more noticeable between tracks as the audio tends to disguise it and, in my opinion, does not detract from the enjoyment of the music.

THE INNER SLEEVE:

Not believed to be the original, as it is plain white (photo).

THE OUTER SLEEVE:

Is not in good condition, and has a fair amount of tape around it!!! (see photo’s), but it is thought to be a 1st PRESS COVER as the credit for the photo on the front is to ANGUS MCBEAN and is FARTHEST OVER TO THE RIGHT. The cover also has on the rear, “Printed and Made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd. London”

Although I have tried to cover everything in text or photo’s, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
