Up for auction is a copy of Please Please Me by The Beatles, released in 1963 on Parlophone, cat no PCS 3042. This is a very rare pressing from mid-1963 on the yellow/black Parlophone label, with no “Sold In UK” text. The matrix numbers are YEX 94-1 / YEX 95-1, and the mother/stamper numbers are incredibly low: 1-L & 1-M, indicating that this copy was among the first couple of thousand off the press.
Condition: some marks on the vinyl, including a few feelable ones, but everything plays through with no jumps/sticks (though inevitably there are some clicks). Labels look like they may have been “touched-up” here & there. How thoughtful. Cover has a 3” tear on the open seam at the rear, some edge & corner wear, 6” of missing “flipback” on the rear, some taped repairs, and the previous owner’s initials. A bit of a dog’s dinner, if I’m going to be honest, but early stereo pressings of this LP are hard to find in any condition, and this is better than many. G+ for the vinyl, G for the cover.
My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. I am a long-time (30+ years!) record collector, and play-grade where possible. I don’t use stock photos: the item pictured here is the item for sale.
