Description
Up for auction is a copy of Please Please Me by The Beatles, released in 1963 on Parlophone, cat no PMC 1202, a UK mono pressing. This copy was pressed in the mid-to-late 1960s; the “Sold in UK” message is present, the rim text starts with “The Gramophone Co Ltd”, and the titles are printed in an uncommon (for this LP) font. The cover is printed by Garrod & Lofthouse, rather than the more common EJ Day version. Most people who wanted this album had bought it by 1966, making this variation quite rare. Matrix details: XEX 421 – 1N 15 RHP, XEX 422 – 2N (overstamped) 6 GG. KT tax code on a-side.
Condition: the vinyl surface is glorious: I can see barely any marks at all, just one small non-feelable hairline scratch at the start of side 2. There are traces of sticker removal on each label, but not tears, just some residue. Front cover has a few thumbnail creases on the open edge, and a little to the spine, but nothing serious (spine is still very legible!). Rear has a little staining & a name quite neatly written. Thanks, Thomas! This is a decent example of a cover difficult to obtain in good condition. EX/VG+ (vinyl/cover).
My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. I am a long-time (25+ years!) record collector, and play-grade where possible. I don’t use stock photos: the item in pictured here is the item for sale.
