Another from my personal collection of over 1000 UK Beatles Albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years or more! Here on offer is an original 1st UK mono pressing totally complete with the original red and white fools record sleeve and cut outs! Please note! This is listed for its rarity and collectability rather than for its condition. There is light general wear and tear with age but in general this is complete and a very playable and enjoyable copy to own. I have play tested the vinyl prior to this listing at very loud volume on a top system importantly using a dedicated Mono cartridge. I have also recorded the complete album for you to hear for your self in the player below! This copy plays through clear and vibrant in general! Cristal clear and very vibrant stunning Mono audio throughout! There are No loud constant clicks or pops heard during the audio, any static is isolated only and not consistent through out the audio!  A nice collectable and  playable copy to have and own! Audio graded excellent on my systems! (Light interference static/ticks only) No loud constant clicks or pops

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the eighth studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. Released on 1 June 1967, it was an immediate commercial and critical success, spending 22 weeks at the top of the albums chart in the United Kingdom and 15 weeks at number one in the United States. Time magazine declared it "a historic departure in the progress of music" and the New Statesman praised its elevation of pop to the level of fine art. It won four Grammy Awards in 1968, including Album of the Year, the first rock LP to receive this honour.





In August 1966, the Beatles permanently retired from touring and began a three-month holiday from recording. During a return flight to London in November, Paul McCartney had an idea for a song involving an Edwardian era military band that would eventually form the impetus of the Sgt. Pepper concept. Sessions for the Beatles' eighth studio album began on 24 November in Abbey Road Studio Two, with the original intention to record an album of material that was to be thematically linked to their childhoods. Among the first tracks recorded for the project were "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane", but after pressure from EMI the songs were released as a double A-side single; they were not included on the album.






In February 1967, after recording "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", McCartney suggested that the Beatles should release an entire album that would represent a performance by the fictional Sgt. Pepper band. This alter ego group would give them the freedom to experiment musically. During the recording sessions, the band endeavoured to improve upon the production quality of their prior releases. Knowing they would not have to perform the tracks live, they adopted an experimental approach to composition, writing songs such as "With a Little Help from My Friends", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "A Day in the Life". The producer George Martin's innovative recording of the album included the liberal application of sound shaping signal processing and the use of a 40-piece orchestra performing aleatoric crescendos. Recording was completed on 21 April 1967. The cover, depicting the band posing in front of a tableau of celebrities and historical figures, was designed by the English pop artists Peter Blake and Jann Haworth based on a sketch by McCartney.





Sgt. Pepper is regarded by musicologists as an early concept album that advanced the use of extended form in popular music while continuing the artistic maturation seen on the Beatles' preceding releases. It has been described as one of the first art rock LPs, aiding the development of progressive rock, and credited with marking the beginning of the Album Era. An important work of British psychedelia, the multigenre album incorporates diverse stylistic influences, including vaudeville, circus, music hall, avant-garde, and Western and Indian classical music. In 2003 the Library of Congress placed Sgt. Pepper in the National Recording Registry, honouring the work as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". That same year Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number one in its list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".






As of 2014 it has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in history. Professor Kevin J Dettmar, writing in the Oxford Encyclopedia of British Literature, described it as "the most important and influential rock and roll album ever recorded".





Sgt. Pepper was recorded using four-track equipment. Although eight-track tape recorders were available in the US, the first units were not operational in commercial studios in London until late 1967.





As with previous Beatles albums, the Sgt. Pepper recordings made extensive use of the technique known as reduction mixing, in which one to four tracks from one recorder are mixed and dubbed down onto a master four-track machine, enabling the Abbey Road engineers to give the group a virtual multitrack studio.





EMI's Studer J37 four-track machines were well suited to reduction mixing, as the high quality of the recordings that they produced minimised the increased noise associated with the process. Preferring to overdub his bass part last, McCartney tended to play other instruments when recording a song's backing track.






This approach afforded him the extra time required to write and record melodic basslines that complemented the song's final arrangement. He also performed most of the album's lead guitar work. When recording the orchestra for "A Day in the Life", Martin synchronised a four-track recorder playing the Beatles' backing track to another one taping the orchestral overdub.





The engineer Ken Townsend devised a method for accomplishing this by using a 50 Hz control signal between the two machines.

The Vinyl

This is the original thicker , (Very important), heavier chunky slab of vinyl only found like this on the earliest original pressings! (Later press are much more flimsier and less robust)! The vinyls playing surface displays some surface marks light scratches with age but nothing too bad in my opinion.

The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warps. The vinyl has retained its original sheen from new in my opinion on initial inspection this looks like it has obviously been played  but certainly not been over played in my opinion, On initial inspection under a strong light I notice very few but some light surface marks and light scratches only, some cause light static and isolated ticks but amazingly no loud nasty pops, fortunately nothing too deep and nothing that caused any loud contant clicks or pops. On close inspection any other marks that could possibly be seen would be very light sleeve removal/scuffs!

The audio quality

I have played this track for track at very loud volume prior to listing on a top system, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge. The audio is stunning cristal clear and vibrant, very bright and clear throughout and plays with a lovely deep bassey feel only found like this on earliest Mono pressings! Please note , any interference worth to mention is the odd very light isolated static crackle and some static static type light ticks heard but nothing that spoilt the over all audio enjoyment in my opinion!  I would grade the audio at excellent in my opinion! (light interference only in the from of isolated static and light ticks only no loud constant clicks or pops)

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for light isolated static ticks or minor background static , and nothing consistant through out the audio. Please remember that this is a genuine 48 year old record that would have originally been played on a 48 year old system.

The Labels

These are the original and earliest Yellow and Black Parlophone labels feature   ''The Parlophone Co...'' rim text (only 1st press ) Sold In The UK...." text across the labels (Only 1st Press) K.T. Tax code stamped on side 1 (Correct for this pressing) all text is fully readable. It is obvious to me that this vinyl has been played but not overplayed. Spidering can be seen around the spindle hole but little if no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve

This is the original Red /White Fools record sleeve no splits or tares just light fading/browning with age becoming fragile. The vinyl is now always stored separately from the sleeve. This is how I have always stored my records. Feature 'Patents Applied For' and 'Made In Great Britain"  The original!

The Cover

This is the original Mono Garrod & Lofthouse Fully Laminated internal flipback gate fold cover. Lovely rich and vibrant in color (some are very insipid ) The cover is super glossy in appearance and is nice and clean with no names written on it. There are no nasty creases just small laminate lines at the spine to mention. The rear is exceptionally clean with just minor crease lines near the spine to mention and again nothing bad at all! There are no edge splits or tears all text is legible! Slight rubbing at the spine to mention only. I would grade this cover  excellent in my opinion.

The Cut outs

This album is complete with the original cutouts never been used very minor bottom edge bumping but nothing too bad at all. Clean and straight as it should be!
