THE BEATLES - SGT. PEPPER's LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND
1967 UK MONO 12" LP Parlophone PMC 7027

A very good+ copy of this 1967 1st press classic complete with the infamous wide spine
Both sides of the vinyl (completely flat, by the way) have retained much of their original sheen and have a great appearance. Looking closely under a halogen right, and tilted at the right angle, there are a number of wispy hairlines in evidence, however, but I suspect that these are just paper scuffs caused by the inner sleeve. There are no distinguishable flaws at all in normal daylight and even under a bright light you need to look hard. Truly impressive appearance condition.
The laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer gatefold sleeve is in very good+ condition, with original, vibrant colouring fully intact. There is a 4cm obvious scuff right in the middle at the bottom of the front gatefold, however, along with some mild rubbing at each corner of the spinee. The remaining edges are excellent with no scuffs and the spine remains nicely intact - rigidwith all writing perfectly legible ad just a little distortion towards each end. Opening out the gatefold to view the inner picture of the boys themselves is a job with all the gorgeous colouring still fully intact. There is some mild creasing/distortion immediatly adjacent to the inner fold but no other blemishes. On the reverse side all of the writing, including full song lyrics, is fully intact but there is a little laminate lifting next to the spine along with a slightly larger area of laminate lifting towards the right hand corner (see photo).
The quality of the audio is VERY GOOD. No skips (obviously) but there is noticeable crackle at the beginning of each side. This crackle dissipates quickly to mild background interference which is barely noticeable one each track gets going. On close inspection of the vinyl there is no obvious reason for this crackle : there are no scratches and no scuffs - I can only assume that over a period of some 50 years dust has settled bewteen the grroves and I suspect that a professional clean would eradicate the vast majority of this crackle. That is not to say that the record is not enjoyable to listen to - it is! It's a great joy and most of the time this "crackle" is not noticeable but it is there and it's definitely noticeable at the beginning of each side, dissipating into "mild background crackle" from thereon.
Each label is excellent+. Difficult to fault in any way, actually, and the raised "K" and "T" tax codes are in evidence on the side 1 label.
The famed cardboard cut-out is perfect, appearing to have been unused.

Comes complete with original, red-and white sepia "PATENTS APPLIED FOR" inner sleeve - fully functional still but a little grubby, some nicks around the edges, some slight staining, and a 10cm split at the bottom.

I worked in IT for 22 years before doing a complete career change to teach Maths in a high school at the ripe old age of 45 - probably the best career move that I ever made. I took great joy in indulging the "kids" in my eclectic collection of 60's and 70's vinyl, even once dedicating a whole PSE lesson to the Genesis classic "Foxtrot". But now I am retired and a combination of space requirements and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take care in removing the record from the outer sleeve and properly protecting it in a separate white inner sleeve in order to prevent outer sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Richard
Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :
Mint
Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent
Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good
Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good
Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
Fair
Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
Poor
Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad
Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
