BEATLES MEGA RARE SGT. PEPPER’S FOURTH PROOF TEST SLEEVE WITH INNER + VINYL VG.
This is the very, very first mono pressing of Sgt Peppers available to buy. Initially made as proof of concept sleeves for the album, the ‘Fourth Proof’ sleeves were the 4th proof of concept for the sleeve design found on the initial release. As such, this sleeve predates any other pressings of the album. Extremely rare to find.
The sleeve is in overall VG+ condition, bearing the words ‘Fourth Proof’ within the gatefold sleeve at the top right corner, upside down when looking at the cover the right way up. It also contains the correct letters and numbers at the top of the spine on the inside too, all as seen in photos provided. The sleeve carries the rare text ‘Patents Pending’ after the line ‘Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.’ at the back sleeve’s bottom, visible in photos. The only issue with the sleeve is the split spine which I have also shown in a photo. In general, it’s a lovely example of this mega rare copy.
The original ‘fool’s’ inner is present, although this is split on three sides, but no other issues. It carries the correct original text ‘Made in Great Britain’ and ‘Patents Applied For.’
The disc is in good shape, with light marks throughout but nothing significant. The only issue with the disc is a small marked ‘M’ on one side of the label, but it is not very noticeable and only appears under bright light, the other side’s label is immaculate.
The disc is a first mono pressing, as indicated by the extra dot after the ‘M’ in ‘R.P.M.’ , as well as the matrix numbers which are as follows :
