Description

THE BEATLES - SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND

The omission of "A Day In The Life" on the side 2 label makes this one of the rarest Sgt Pepper's pressings

Label number : PMC 7027 (UK Parlophone)

Matrix numbers : XEX 637-1 , XEX 638-1

Stampers :  37 MRR  /  8 MRA
Very good plus (VG+) condition vinyl (I am sure that many would grade as "excellent") - gleaming vinyl with an impressive jet black sheen still, and in normal daylight looks completely unmarked. It is only with close scrutiny under a bright light that some extremely fine wispy and paper scuff hairlines can be identified on each side - nothing feelable or obvious and each appearing to be purely superficial as evidenced by the overall excellent mono sound quality. Having said that there is some very light rotational background clicking during most of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", and both at the very beginning and during a couple of short passages of "Within You Without You" - you will need to listen hard to hear them but they are there. Nevertheless, remarkable condition when considering that this record is almost 60 years old!  The labels are in excellent (EX) condition - just a few small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. And, of course, on the side 2 label there is no "A DAY IN THE LIFE" track listing!   Excellent plus (EX+) condition Garrod & Lofthouse 1st press  gatefold outer sleeve - firm edges with no scuffing, a firm spine also with all spine text remaining perfectly intact, no cardboard creasing, nicely defined right angled corners with a little mild rubbing on the bottom right corner only, firm opening edges with no fraying, no ring wear, and all colours, iconic art work, text and photos remaining in wonderful condition with crisp definition still. There are just a few non-obvious 1-2cm surface "crinkles" adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on both the front and reverse side but no other laminate lifting or creasing - amazing! The inside of the gatefold is near perfect. I have to say that the condition of this gatefold is hard to fault - eminently presentable and remarkable condition considering it's 60 year antiquity!  The Peter Blake cardboard cut-out is present and in unused condition.  Excellent (EX) MONO sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats or distortion, and with background crackle being at an absolute minimum - negligible in fact. As already mentioned there is some very light and very background rotational clicking during "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and a few very light clicks both at the beginning and during "Within You Without You" - nothing nasty here and nothing to detract from the overall wonderful tone and crystal clear mono reproduction. Every track remains a brilliant listen.  Comes with excellent (VG+) condition original flame red and white "Fool's" inner sleeve with no side splits, no tears or edge fraying, no age discolouration and just a little mild creasing in one corner.  Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.    An overall great condition copy of this UK 1st press Beatles masterpiece with wonderful MONO sound quality, but it's the omission on the side 2 label of "A Day In The Life" which puts this copy high up on any Beatles vinyl collector's wish list.
POSTAGE COSTS :

For the UK £3.38 using Royal Mail tracked 48 (ebay "Simple Delivery");

for continental Europe £11 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked;

and for the rest of the world £17 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked.

I do provide posting and packaging discounts for multiple purchases. I make no profit from postage.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
