Complete original 1st UK Mono press of The Beatles ‘Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' LP from 1st June, 1967 with rare ‘Fourth Proof’ sleeve, this version still had its pre-production marking on. Rare in itself but also in this condition and especially with a fully-readable spine. The “Fourth Proof” sleeve represents the earliest possible pressing of the Sgt Pepper cover. The Fourth Proof was the final version of the various “prototypes” that were explored by the Beatles when the cover was being designed. The cover (and text) was approved by the Beatles and an initial very small test run was undertaken to make sure everything was correct. This small test run is characterised by the inverted “Fourth Proof“ text in the top right hand corner of the inner gatefold just above George Harrison’s head. This is therefore the earliest possible “prototype” (test pressing) cover. Same fold-back have can printed text “AR D 1321″ which was a reference number for the prototype that was used. The sleeve back includes the correct 1st press 'Patents Pending' copy on the lower right. This copy may have originally been an EMI sample as the inner sleeve includes the 'EMI' stamp on the top right.

Beautiful condition. The vinyl has a deep glossy sheen, no marks, no wear, MINT-! It plays beautifully also. Crisp and clear punchy 1st press audio without issue throughout including 'She's Leaving Home' often used as the litmus test for Sgt Pepper. Obviously there are no skips or sticks with this top grade, no repeat clicks or loud obtrusive pops, MINT-! The labels are sharp and without wear at all. The sleeve is in fantastic condition for a Fourth Proof. The spines are notoriously worn on most copies, this one has retained a fully-readable spine. The front, back and insides are super-glossy and clean, no ring wear. Sharp edges and corners, EXCELLENT PLUS! The set is complete with the original Peter Blake cut-outs insert which is MINT-! It also includes the original ‘Fool’s’ red swirl inner which is clean with no writing, stains, tears or splits, EXCELLENT PLUS! A fantastic collectors and listening set.
