ARTIST: THE BEATLES

TITLE: THE BEATLES BOX – FROM LIVERPOOL

LABEL + YEAR: World Records SM 701-708; 1980 UK Press

All albums were issued on the EMI / Parlophone label. The eight individual LPs were untitled.

CONDITION VINYL: All Mint

CONDITION BOX / SLEEVES: Box is VG+ due to minor edge wear – no corner splits but at thumb hole opening point to front there is a split vertically ½”; the cloth hinge is perfect. The Box Set is housed in a superb 12" x 12" picture box designed to look like a wooden crate with the words "From Liverpool" stencilled in black ink across the top, along with a small snapshot of the Beatles pasted across the front of the crate.

Sleeves are all Mint: each album has a unique fully laminated picture sleeve, each cover features a previously unpublished colour photo of the Beatles on the front and extensive liner notes detailing their career during the period represented by the album's songs on the back.

An 8 album (L.P. or cassette) boxed set issued by E.M.I. through it's "World Records" subsiduary.

This set is actually new albums in new sleeves & was advertised vigourously in the national press from 5th November 1980 through into 1981. This means it was at the forefront right across the period of John's murder, and therefore sales must have been quite good, but as this box set was sold only by mail order only the figures did not qualify for chart entry, and consequently are not publicly known.

All the songs throughout the eight L.P.'s which were selected by Simon Sinclair, are arranged chronologically, and the covers reflect this, in that each has a picture from the appropriate period on the front, and a well-written biography of the period by Hugh Marshall on the rear.

The Box itself is well designed looking like a wooden crate and this originally sold for £29:75. Incredibly, World Records were given some different mixes of some of the tracks, that were unavailable anywhere else at the time, and therefore made this box an essential purchase ... and anyway, it's a nice looking, excellent set!

This particular box set was not released in North America.
